Project Summary
The Glendale Police Department Property and Evidence Unit requests funding to acquire
new property and evidence gun bags to replace the existing gun boxes that are increasing in
price and create a cost burden to the unit.
Narrative: The mission of the Glendale Police Department (GPD) is to protect the lives and
property of those we serve. We are guided by our values - Integrity, Courage, Excellence,
Respect, Dedication, and Compassion - ensuring professionalism and ethical policing. Our
vision is to build a department that is highly qualified, diverse, accountable, and
committed to creating a safe community.
To achieve these goals, GPD is focused on:

Reducing crime and the fear of crime through proactive enforcement.

Enhancing community trust through engagement and transparency.

Ensuring operational efficiency within the department

Improving customer service and communication internally and externally.
As Glendale continues to expand as a hub for large-scale events, tourism, and
entertainment, the department has prioritized enhancing equipment needs to increase the
department’s capacity to assure public safety.
The Property and Evidence Unit has been utilizing gun boxes for the collection of guns. The
cost of these boxes and had significant increases to more than $10 a box. Through
conducting research with other agencies, we have found that many have moved towards
utilizing gun bags which still provide the same opportunity to properly secure and preserve
the guns as evidence. The vendor doesn’t sell them in small batches and to keep the cost
to the minimum they require we purchase 3,000 to 5,000 at a time. We need to purchase
two different sizes for a total of 6,000 bags.
Currently, we are waiting for a formal quote but based on previous discussions with the
vendor we are anticipating the need of $7,500 for this request.
The target population served with the purchase of these gun bags are the residents of
Glendale.  The gun bags will secure property and evidence in service to a community of
approximately 250,000 residents along with visitors to the City of Glendale.  These gun
bags may also serve the partner cities in the West Valley Investigative Response Team
where Glendale is the leading agency in this partnership.   The citizens of Glendale will

benefit from the use of less costly materials to safely store and secure critical evidence
items.
Upon approval of the grant funding, the Glendale Police Department would promptly order
the gun evidence bags.  The goal would be to acquire and put into use within the next fiscal
quarter after funding and approval.
