MARICOPA COUNTY INTERNAL POLICY Policy Title: REQUIRED CREDENTIALS Policy Number: HR2480 Current Adoption Date: 01-29-2025 Current Implementation Date: 01-29-2025 Approved by: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Board Agenda Number: C-31-25-027-X-00 Original Adoption Date: 01-29-2025 I. PURPOSE To establish a procedure for ensuring County employees obtain and maintain necessary Credentials. II. AUTHORITY This Policy is authorized by the Board of Supervisors pursuant to A.R.S. §11-251. III. APPLICATION This Policy applies to all Maricopa County appointed departments, the Flood Control District of Maricopa County, and the Maricopa County Library District (Special Districts). The Board of Supervisors is authorized to jointly adopt policies applying to the Special Districts under the Intergovernmental Agreement, C-06-18-393-6- 00, approved on April 11, 2018. An elected office may follow this Policy for its employees when it does not have a similar policy. IV. DEFINITIONS A. Appointing Authority: An elected official, the single administrative or executive head of a department, or the designated representative authorized to act in this capacity. B. Credential: Includes, but not limited to, licensure, certification, professional membership, passing a necessary examination, or registration. V. POLICY A. Employees in positions that require Credentials must obtain and maintain them in an active and current status as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain or communicate changes to required Credentials may result in restriction of duties, demotion, or disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal. B. Employee Responsibility: 1. Provide documentation evidencing the required Credential from the issuing agency at the time of hire or rehire. 2. If applicable, complete any required continuing education and renew the required Credential before it becomes invalid. 3. Maintain the required Credential in good standing with the issuing entity. 4. Inform the supervisor, Appointing Authority, or Human Resources as soon as possible of any change in Credential status, including but not limited to sanction, probation, suspension, or termination. 5. Comply with the department’s procedures for positions requiring Credentials. C. Define and maintain a list of positions that require Credentials. 2. Ensure the position postings indicate the required Credentials. 3. Verify and document that employees have the required Credentials at the time of hire or rehire. 4. Establish a process to document and ensure employees maintain required Credentials. 5.
