NEW BUSINESS
 
a.
Centerline District Arts & Cultural Initiative Project Proposal Presentation - Brelby Theatre
Company
Mr. Maticic presented the grant application from the Brelby Theatre Company. The presentation
included the following information: 
For the past three years, the group has performed Shakespeare in the Park in Glendale
through grant funding from the city 
This year, the group would like to do a more contemporary play and is proposing to perform
Shakespeare in Love free to the public for several weeks at Brelby Theatre in April/May
2020.
Mr. Maticic would like to find a way to engage the community more effectively. He
suggested exploring outreach to high schools to conduct a short performance before the
main play opens
Action:  To approve the Centerline Arts & Cultural Initiative Project Proposal by the Brelby
Theatre Company as presented and grant funding for Shakespeare in Love to be
presented at Brelby Theatre

Centerline District Arts & Cultural Initiative Project Proposal Presentation - WHAM Art
Association
Ms. Whitlock presented the grant application from the WHAM Art Association, which included the
following information: 
WHAM is a 501(c)3 organization and has been in existence for seven years with the home
facility in Surprise.  WHAM is a resource of many artists and they provide studio art
educational opportunities to the public and various community groups
The activity proposed for grant funding is called WHAM on Wheels, which brings art
activities out to the community at various public events
The group will work in conjunction with other events and coordinates the art with the theme
of the events.  The three February events would be:  Full Moon Lantern Fest, Galentine’s
Day, and Movie Night in the Park
Grant request:  $6,300.00
Action:  To approve the Centerline Arts & Cultural Initiative Project Proposal by the
WHAM Art Association as presented for three events in February 2020

INFORMATION:  The FY 2020-21 Arts Project Planning Discussion
Ms. Vahabzadeh gave a presentation on the FY 2020-2021 Arts Project Plan 
Information on the FY 2020-21 Operating Budget and Community Arts Activities was
presented
Staff presented information about the CIP budget for the coming fiscal year
A promotional video was played for Ballet Under the Stars
Staff and the Commission discussed the potential increase in funding to support an
increase in community activities in FY 2020-21
At the August 9, 2020 meeting, the Commission will consider a vote to approve the
proposed FY 2020-21 Arts Projects Plan
  
 
6.
STAFF UPDATES
Ms. Weldon announced that fifteen artists submitted thirty-two proposals for the downtown bench
project.  There are twenty benches that will be painted by project artists.  The artist selection
panel is meeting on Monday, December 9th to review all submitted proposals and to recommend
the selected designs that will be considered for approval by the Arts Commission at the January
9 th meeting.
 
Ms. Vahabzadeh shared the following updates: 
Glitter and Glow will be held on January 11, 2020.  The Arts Commission is funding the
interactive performance called Spectrum by Vessel lead by artist Rachel Bowditch and five
of her Vessel performers.
The Plein Air Competition will be held on February 29th in partnership with Glendale
Special Events at the annual Folk and Heritage Festival at Sahuaro Ranch Park

NEXT MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Glendale Arts Commission will be held on January 9, 2020 at 6
p.m. in the Fruit Packing Shed at Sahuaro Ranch Park, 9802 North 59th Ave., Glendale, Arizona
85302.
