NEW BUSINESS
 
a.
INFORMATION:  Commission Introductions
Ms. Vahabzadeh suggested with the addition of new Commissioner Barber, it would be
beneficial for all to introduce themselves.  All present introduced themselves and shared a brief
background.

b.
ACTION:  IN FLUX Cycle 9 - Design Approval
Ms. Vahabzadeh gave a brief history of the IN FLUX initiative and introduced Mr. Matthew Baral,
the artist chosen by Glendale’s artist selection panel. 
 
Mr. Baral gave a PowerPoint presentation on his design concept, which included photographs
and conceptual renderings. Mr. Baral stated the proposed art installation will be about 10 feet by
10 feet and the concept is based on fractal geometry. 
 
Ms. Vahabzadeh announced that a kick-off event will be held in April and will advise the
Commissioners in advance with details.  Mr. Baral relayed the kick-off is slated for April 25 th and
the artwork will be installed most likely on March 29th.   Ms. Vahabzadeh shared the IN FLUX
website as follows: www.influxaz.com.
 
Action:  To approve the proposed conceptual art design by Artist Matthew Baral for the
2020 INFLUX Cycle 9 art installation as presented

ACTION:  Centerline District Arts & Cultural Initiative Project Proposal
Ms. Vahabzadeh announced there is approximately $4,000 available in the budget for Centerline
grants and provided details on a grant request from Local Trade LLC, which included the
following: 
The group organizes artisan markets along with live music.
The proposed event is Local Trade AZ – Live! At Murphy Park:  Music + Makers Market.
The proposed date of the event is April 4, 2020 and it will be held during the day.  The
event will tie into the City’s series of evening concerts at Murphy Park.  There is an
evening concert scheduled for April 4th.
Ms. Vahabzadeh shared two videos of past events held by the group. 
This request is in line with what the City and the Chamber of Commerce would like to see
in downtown Glendale. 
The requested funds will be used for the musical groups. 
The grant request is for $4,000. 
Action:  To approve the grant request of $4,000 from Local Trade LLC for the Local Trade
AZ Live at Murphy Park Music + Makers Market Event as proposed

ACTION:  Goals and Topics of Disucssion for the Upcoming Year
Ms. Vahabzadeh announced a new directive whereby the Commission is to develop its goals for
calendar year 2020 during its February meeting.  Ms. Vahabzadeh facilitated the discussion on
proposed goals.
Action:  To approve the following Arts Commission Goals for Calendar Year 2020:
Either as a Commission or as individual Commissioners: 
Attend the Arts Congress in February 2021
Support and participate in an artist showcase/educational workshop
Hold an Arts Commission monthly meeting at a different location or take a field trip
to an off-site location
Attend an Arts Commission grant-funded event

STAFF UPDATES
Ms. Vahabzadeh shared the following: 
The 2020 Plein Air Event will take place on Saturday, February 29th at Sahuaro Ranch
Park from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Judging will be at 3:30 p.m. 
Take A Seat, Glendale!  Unveling event will be held in downtown Glendale on Wednesday,
March 4th at 5:00 p.m.  Twelve artists painted twenty benches in the heart of Downtown
Glendale. 
The grant-funded production of Shakespeare in Love by the Brelby Theater is upcoming. 
Ms. Vahabzadeh will send a flyer to all Commissioners to share with others.  The event is
free to all. Seats can be reserved on www.brelbytheater.com. 
 
7.
COMMISSION COMMENTS
Chair Peverini announced that she is directing a production at the Glendale Adult Center on April
15 th at 4:30 p.m. which is the western comedy “The Paperback Bandit Rides Again.”  All are
welcome to attend.

NEXT MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Glendale Arts Commission will be held on Thursday, March 26,
2020 at 6:00 p.m., in the second floor boardroom of the Glendale Public Library, 5959 W. Brown
St., Glendale, Arizona, 85302.

Action:  To adjourn the meeting at 7:17 p.m.
