INFORMATION:  Commission Introductions
Ms. Vahabzadeh introduced new Commissioner, Chris Kennedy.  All present introduced
themselves and shared a brief background.

b.
ACTION:  Downtown Arts and Cultural Initiative Grant Program
Ms. Vahabzadeh announced that this agenda item was for the Commission to consider
deferment of the Downtown Arts & Cultural Initiative Grant Program due to the issues with
COVID-19. 
 
Action:  To approve deferment of the Downtown Arts & Cultural Initiative Grant Program to a later
date to be determined

ACTION:  We Are One: Glendale Art Grants
Ms. Vahabzadeh announced that due to the current socio-cultural climate and movement to
ensure equality and unity, the Commission is asked to consider the “We Are One: Glendale Art
Grants Program”.  The goal of the program is to challenge artists inspired by the current
movement to give voices to all and to help promote a spirit of unity and dialog through artistic
expression. The grant program will be presented in partnership with the Glendale Human
Relations Commission.
 
Ms. Vahabzadeh asked Commissioner Barber to present details of the program, as
Commissioner Barber had suggested the grant program to staff.
 
Commissioner Barber shared additional details, which included the following: 
The program is rather timely due to what is currently occurring in the country.
Other arts commissions across the country are encouraging unity and equality themed art
projects at this time
Funding for these competitively selected grant proposals would be in the amount of $4,000
each for eight projects
The project proposals will be evaluated and selected by members of the Arts Commission
and the Human Relations Commission
Action:  To approve the We Are One: Glendale Art Grants, as proposed

The Arts Commission considered the FY 2020-21 PAPP grant applications with disucssions and
recommend funding for selected project proposals.  
Action:  To approve the Performing Arts Partnership Program grant application from West Valley
Arts Council

STAFF UPDATES
Ms. Vahabzadeh thanked the Commissioners for attending the meeting virtually and hoped to
meet in person soon.
 
Ms. Pederson thanked the Commissioners as well for working through the virtual meeting
process so that the meeting could be officially conducted.
 
7.
COMMISSION COMMENTS
Commissioner Kennedy relayed that he enjoyed his first meeting with the Commission.

8.
NEXT MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Glendale Arts Commission will be held in person or via Zoom on
Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 6:00 p.m.

ADJOURNMENT
Action:  To adjourn the meeting at 7:23 p.m.
