NEW BUSINESS

INFORMATION:  Commission Introductions
Ms. Vahabzadeh announced that the Commission is now fully seated with the appointment of
new Commissioners Aguiñaga and Zomok. All present introduced themselves and shared a brief
background.
  
 
b.
INFORMATION: West Valley Arts
Sandra Bassett, President and CEO of West Valley Arts, gave a presentation on the latest
initiatives and programs of the non-profit organization, which included information on the
following: 
Arts Programming 
Art Gallery and Rental Space
Arts Education Partnership
Lunchtime Theater
Goodyear Lakeside Music Festival Participation
Arts Advantage
Creative Aging Program
Vision & Sound
Gallery 37
Awards Received 
Various awards listed
Staff members and roles
Ms. Bassett thanked the Commission for listening to the presentation and keeping the
West Valley Arts Council in consideration for future project partnership opportunities. Ms.
Vahabzadeh noted that Glendale has been an active partner with West Valley Arts. Ms.
Vahabzadeh relayed that Glendale participates with the Vision & Sound annual event
with artist talks at the Main Library. Glendale also completed a Gallery 37 public art project
at the Elsie McCarthy Sensory Garden. 
  
 
c.
INFORMATION:  Rising Youth Theatre
Rising Youth Theatre artists, Thameenah Muhammad presented information about the theatre's
unique collaborative artmaking process.  Ms. Muhammad talked about the following: 
Mission, What We Do, Core Values
Partnerships in Glendale
This Year’s Project:  A story-telling/film experience project 
Ms. Vahabzadeh and the Commissioners thanked Ms. Muhammad for the presentation.

STAFF UPDATES
Ms. Vahabzadeh’s commented included the following: 
Appreciation to the Commissioners for their patience with attending the meeting virtually
The Call to Artists for the "We Are One" Glendale grant will go out in October
 In October, the Commission will vote to recommend members for Chair and Vice Chair for
2021

The next regular meeting of the Glendale Arts Commission will be held in person or via Zoom on
Thursday, October 22, 2020 at 6:00 p.m.
