Chair Gary R. Johnson called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

APPROVAL OF OCTOBER 14, 2020 MINUTES
Vice Chair Kocur moved, Board Member E. Ndavu made the second to approve the
October 14, 2020 Library Advisory Board meeting minutes as submitted. Motion carried

NEW BUSINESS
 
a.
2021 NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK PROCLAMATION PREPARATION
Chief Librarian Beck shared with the Board the draft copy of the 2021 National Library Week
Proclamation.
 
Vice-Chair Kocur and Board Member E. Ndavu provided Board Members with different
recommendations of the 2021 National Library Week Proclamation to consider. There was Board
Member discussion and it was requested to have both versions combined for the final draft 2021
National Library Week Proclamation.
Vice-Chair Kocur moved, Board Member E. Ndavu made the second, to submit the two
revisions to a library staff member to combine the modifications into a final draft 2021
National Library Week Proclamation. Motion carried 6-0.

LIBRARY SERVICE UPDATES IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19
Chief Librarian Beck updated the Board of the following: 
The Library continues to offer lobby and drive-thru services.
Since March, the Library has had over 75,000 in-person patrons visits with over 260,000
physical items checked out.
Since October 1st, there have been 1,500 public computing sessions.
The Library has consistently seen about 3,200 people per week, including 500 people
utilizing the Foothills branch’s drive thru.
Due to Covid-19, there have not been any opportunities to collaborate with any of the
sports events.
The Culture Pass program has begun again but on a limited schedule for three
participating agencies.
Board Member T. Ndavu asked if there have been any physical modifications to the library
equipment and it is being used. Chief Librarian Beck informed The Board that the Library has
continued to use PPE as directed by the City and CDC. All items are being quarantined after
each use, and touch point cleaning has continued throughout.

CHIEF LIBRARIAN UPDATE

a.
Chief Librarian Beck updated the Board of the following: 
The budget process has begun for The City, and the Library has submitted some IT
steering committee requests for a technology phone app and programming laptops for
Heroes Library.
Lobby Services continue.
Library staff is working on potential Library Service and Technology Act Grant ideas.
Recently hosted the Veterans Day Flag Changing Ceremony at the Main Library.
Recently had over 400 people attend a virtual Jane Austin Fest that had attendees who
joined worldwide.
The State Grants in Aid Grant was approved by City Council. Those funds are used for
professional development and in purchasing public use equipment and furniture.
Since July 1st, we have had almost 3,000 new card registrants.

Library Advisory Board Members welcomed new Teen Board Member Lauren Snair.

NEXT MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Library Advisory Board will be held on December 9, 2020 at 6:00
p.m., in the Board Meeting Room of the Main Library, located at 5959 W. Brown St., Glendale,
Arizona, 85302.
