CALL TO ORDER Chair Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL Present: Nicole Riley, Chair Derrell Barber, Vice Chair Jose Aguinaga, Commissioner Chris Kennedy, Commissioner Lorraine Zomok, Commissioner Also Present: Mojgan Vahabzadeh, Arts & Culture Program Manager Jessi Pederson, Assistant Director, Economic Development James Smith, Vice Chair, Human Relations Commission 3. PUBLIC COMMENTS There were no comments. 4. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES a. Motion: Approval of the Arts Commission Minutes of February 25, 2021 Motioned by Commissioner Lorraine Zomok, seconded by Commissioner Chris Kennedy AYE: Chair Nicole Riley Vice Chair Derrell Barber Commissioner Jose Aguinaga Commissioner Chris Kennedy Commissioner Lorraine Zomok Passed 5. NEW BUSINESS a. ACTION: The "We Are One" Grant Program Applications Review and Selection Commissioners reviewed and discussed the "We Are One" grant applications and made their selection for funding. Motion: Approval of funding in the amount of $4,000 for each of the following “We Are One” Grant Program applications: Play Through Glendale - Phoenix Conservatory of Music 1. Community Performance: West African Music, Featuring Arouna Diarra and Pape Diouf - Glendale Community College Percussion Ensemble 2. The Great American Song Book and All That Jazz - AZ Swing Kings Jazz Orchestra 3. Native American and African American Drum Circles Facilitation - Drum Arizona, Inc. 4. Glendale Poetry Slam - Lawn Gnome Publishing 5. North American Folk Tales - Mill Ave Chamber Players 6. Motioned by Commissioner Chris Kennedy, seconded by Vice Chair Derrell Barber AYE: Chair Nicole Riley Vice Chair Derrell Barber Commissioner Jose Aguinaga Commissioner Chris Kennedy Commissioner Lorraine Zomok Passed 6. STAFF UPDATES Ms. Pederson commended the Commissioners for accomplishing the substantial task of reviews and selection of grant projects for the "We Are One" Grant Program. 7. COMMISSION COMMENTS None. 8. NEXT MEETING The next regular meeting of the Glendale Arts Commission will be held on April 22, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom. 9.
