1.   Call to Order  
Chair Schiavone called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m.  
  
2.  Roll Call 
Chair Schiavone took roll call. Commissioners McConnell, June, Mawby, and Martinez attended by phone. 
Commissioner Martinez joined the meeting at 6:06 p.m. 
 
3.  Citizen Comments 
None.  
 
 
4. Approval of the Minutes  
Motion by Commissioner June, second by Vice Chair McConnell, to approve the September 13, 2021, 
Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission Meeting minutes as written.  Motion carried 5 – 0.  
 
5. New Business  
 
ACTION: Chair and Vice Chair Nominations 
Mr. Burke explained to the Commission the City policy to nominate and make recommendations in October to 
the Mayor and City Council of who will be chair and vice chair of various commissions and those nominations 
are sent to the City Clerk. 
 
Mr. Burke stated that all of the Commissioners are scheduled to end this year, and they should have received 
information from the City Clerk’s office asking if they wanted to be reappointed. Mr. Burke requested that if a 
Commissioner is nominated for one of these offices, tell if you plan to be involved next year or ask to be 
appointed. 
 
Commissioner Martinez joined the meeting.

Chair Schiavone lead a discussion on Chair and Vice Chair nominations for terms beginning February 1, 2022, 
and asked if any Commissioner wanted to take the Chair position. 
 
Commissioner Mawby stated she didn’t think she knew enough. 
 
Vice Chair McConnell asked if the existing Chair was willing to stay. Chair Schiavone replied in the affirmative.  
 
Commissioner Mawby felt the last year was lost because of the pandemic. 
 
Vice Chair McConnell nominated Chair Schiavone as Chair and closed the nominations. 
 
Motion by Vice Chair McConnell, second by Commissioner June, to recommend that current Chair 
Schiavone continues as Chair for a 1-year term beginning February 1, 2022. 
Motion carried 5 – 0.  
 
Chair Schiavone opened the floor for Vice Chair nominations and asked who would like to be considered and 
nominated for vice chair. 
 
Vice Chair McConnell commented the vice chair position is a good training ground to work and learn it, and 
down the road to take the chair’s job. Vice Chair McConnell feels anyone in the room could handle it. 
 
Commissioner Martinez volunteered to be Vice Chair. 
 
Commissioner Mawby agreed with Commissioner Martinez and thinks he would be fine. 
 
Vice Chair McConnell nominated Commissioner Martinez and closed the nominations. 
 
Motion by Vice Chair McConnell, second by Commissioner Mawby, to recommend Commissioner 
Martinez as Vice Chair for a 1-year term beginning February 1, 2022. 
Motion carried 5 – 0. 
 
6. Next Meeting 
The next regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission will be held on November 8, 2021, 
at 6:00 p.m. The location previously indicated on the agenda, Glendale Municipal Office Complex meeting room 
B3, will be updated to a location that has yet to be determined. 
 
7. Adjournment 
 
Chair Schiavone called for a motion to adjourn. 
 
Motion by Commissioner Martinez, second by Vice Chair McConnell, to adjourn the meeting at 6:12 p.m.  
Motion carried 5 – 0.
