CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 6 p.m. by Chair Barber. 2. ROLL CALL Present: Derrell Barber, Chair Lorraine Zomok, Vice Chair Jose Aguinaga, Commissioner Nancy Lenox, Commissioner Nicole Riley, Commissioner Kaitlyn Whittaker, Commissioner Also Present: Mojgan Vahabzadeh, Arts & Culture Program Manager Attendees: Heather Bentz, Artist 3. PUBLIC COMMENTS There were no comments. 4. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES a. ACTION: Approval of Minutes of January 6, 2022 Motioned by Vice Chair Lorraine Zomok, seconded by Commissioner Nicole Riley AYE: Chair Derrell Barber Vice Chair Lorraine Zomok Commissioner Jose Aguinaga Commissioner Nancy Lenox Commissioner Nicole Riley Commissioner Kaitlyn Whittaker Passed 5. NEW BUSINESS a. INFORMATION: Commission Introductions Ms. Vahabzadeh thanked Commissioner Riley for her service as Chair last year and thanked Chair Barber and Vice Chair Zomok for serving in these roles this year. All Commissioners introduced themselves and shared a brief background. b. ACTION: IN FLUX Cycle 10 Artist Presentation Motion: To approve Artist Heather Bentz’s concept design of Big Wall Big Art for the IN FLUX Cycle 10 art project to be installed by June 1, 2022 in the lobby of City Hall Motioned by Commissioner Nicole Riley, seconded by Commissioner Nancy Lenox AYE: Chair Derrell Barber Vice Chair Lorraine Zomok Commissioner Jose Aguinaga Commissioner Nancy Lenox Commissioner Nicole Riley Commissioner Kaitlyn Whittaker Passed c. INFORMATION: Glendale Family Advocacy Center Mural Project Finalists Ms. Vahabzadeh stated that one of the art projects approved by the Commission this year is a large mural to be painted on the north-facing wall of the Glendale Family Advocacy Center, located in downtown Glendale.Ms. Vahabzadeh shared an update on the status of the Call to Artists for this opportunity. d. ACTION: Commission Goals for Upcoming Year Motion: To approve the carryover of the 2021 Arts Commission goals for 2022 Motioned by Commissioner Kaitlyn Whittaker, seconded by Commissioner Jose Aguinaga AYE: Chair Derrell Barber Vice Chair Lorraine Zomok Commissioner Jose Aguinaga Commissioner Nancy Lenox Commissioner Nicole Riley Commissioner Kaitlyn Whittaker Passed 6. STAFF REPORTS Ms. Vahabzadeh encouraged all Commissioners to attend the Plein Art Competition at Sahuaro Ranch Park on March 5th. She announced that the event was being held in partnership with the Folk & Heritage Festival. 7. COMMISSION COMMENTS Vice Chair Zomok reported that she visited the Glendale Convention & Visitors Bureau offices and saw the juried art piece that the Commission chose to purchase in January on display along with a companion piece by the same artist that the city purchased a few years ago. Commissioner Riley announced that the picnic for Boards and Commission members will be held on March 31 st at Sahuaro Ranch Park. 8. NEXT MEETING The next meeting of the Glendale Arts Commission will be held via Zoom on Thursday, March 24, 2022. 9.
