CALL TO ORDER Vice Chair Zomok called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL Present: Derrell Barber, Chair Lorraine Zomok, Vice Chair Jean Hailey, Commissioner Nancy Lenox, Commissioner Absent: Jose Aguinaga, Commissioner Nicole Riley, Commissioner Kaitlyn Whittaker, Commissioner Also Present: Mojgan Vahabzadeh, Arts & Culture Program Manager 3. PUBLIC COMMENTS There were no comments. 4. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES a. Motion:To approve the Arts Commission minutes of April 28, 2022 as written. Motioned by Commissioner Nancy Lenox, seconded by Commissioner Jean Hailey AYE: Chair Derrell Barber Vice Chair Lorraine Zomok Commissioner Jean Hailey Commissioner Nancy Lenox Passed 5. NEW BUSINESS a. ACTION: Glendale Photo Contest 2022 Vice Chair Zomok announced the Commission would review the photographs submitted by the public for the Glendale Photo Contest and select up to 26 photos for a purchase award.The winners would receive recognition and the selected photos may be used on Glendale social media channels, website, publications, and promotional materials.The Commissioners reviewed the 42 photo submissions and selected the award winners. Motion: To approve a $150 purchase award to each of the 23 selected photos submitted in the Glendale Photo Contest 2022 Motioned by Commissioner Nancy Lenox, seconded by Commissioner Jean Hailey AYE: Chair Derrell Barber Vice Chair Lorraine Zomok Commissioner Jean Hailey Commissioner Nancy Lenox Passed b. ACTION: Sierra Verde Park Well Site Public Art Project Ms. Vahabzadeh explained the Sierra Verde Park Well Site project located at 71st Avenue and Rose Lane and displayed an aerial diagram of the areal.She reported that the Water Services Department requested a public art element for the walls surrounding the well and announced a budget not to exceed $48,000. She asked the Commission for consideration of the project. STAFF UPDATES Ms. Vahabzadeh’s report included the following: Have You Been Here?: Ms. Vahabzadeh played two short videos created by Glendale 11 promoting public art in Glendale. The FY22-23 Performing Arts Grants application is now open on the city’s website and will remain open until July 13, 2022. The Commissioners will vote on the grants at the August 25th Commission meeting. 7. COMMISSION COMMENTS Vice Chair Zomok told the Commissioners about the recent article in the Glendale Star's front page regarding the downtown mural project. 8. NEXT MEETING The next regular meeting of the Glendale Arts Commission will be held on a date to be determined. 9.
