Active Transportation Plan (ATP)

• Completed in June 2019
– Inventory of existing bicycle and pedestrian facilities 
– Gap analysis of the active transportation network
– Public outreach
• Outcomes
– $72 million in active transportation needs identified
– Lists of prioritized recommendations
• Including 67th Avenue Bikes Lane projects
– Ranked #1 out of approx. 200 new bicycle facility recommendations
– Basic scope: add bike lanes to 67th Ave in existing right of way

Implementation

• MAG Design Assistance (DA) Grants
– Provides 100% funding for preliminary design
– 67th Ave Bike Lanes awarded two DA grants
• North section: Myrtle Ave to Cholla Street
• South section: Missouri Ave to Myrtle Ave
• $144,204 in grants funds ($0 local funds required)
• CMAQ/TA design and construction
– Two DA projects combined into one
– 94.3% federal funding, 5.7% local match - $5.2 million total
• $4.9 million in federal grant funds awarded, $297,875 local match
– Design initiated in January 2022 and is wrapping up this summer

• 5-mile long corridor
• Adds continuous bike lanes in both directions
– By re-allocating existing pavement; no new ROW
• Travel lanes narrowed to 11-ft wide
• Improved Grand Ave crossing
• Links into existing bike facilities 
– Missouri, Maryland, Myrtle, Mountainview, Cholla
• Bicycle detection at signalized intersections
