The virtual meeting was called to order by Chair Lenox at 6:10 p.m.

APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES

Action: Arts Commission Minutes of Thursday, August 24, 2023 
Motion:  To approve the Arts Commission minutes of August 24, 2023 with changing references 
to Chair Lenox to Vice Chair Lenox.

NEW BUSINESS 
a. 
Information:  Update on Current Projects  
Mr. Sabillon gave updates on current projects, which included the following:  
• The Sierra Verde Park Well Site Art Project at Arrowhead Ranch: 
o The artist Mr. John Randall Nelson completed the installation of the medallions last 
week in one day.  The project is now complete. 
o Photos were displayed. 
• Thunderbird Field Public Art Project  
o The project is on 55th Avenue, north of Acoma.  
o Ms. Kristine Kollasch is the selected artist on the project. 
o The project installation was is delayed six to eight weeks, however the artist has 
begun fabrication.

b. 
Information: Update on the Arts Master Plan 
Mr. Sabillon gave an update on the Arts Master Plan, which included the following:  
• The current plan is 15 years old.   
• The Cultural Planning Group (CPG) is the consultant for the plan update and is currently in 
the community engagement phase. The second site visit has been scheduled.   
• It has been a challenge to convene focus groups for more community outreach so CPG will 
be pivoting and sending a survey to the Glendale community.   
• A meeting will be scheduled with community merchants at the Velma Teague Library and a 
meeting will be held with students at Glendale Community College.   
 
c. 
Action: Art Installations at LiVE! Concert Series 
Mr. Sabillon said that the Commission would consider a vote this evening regarding interactive 
art installations at the LiVE! Concert Series. He recalled last year, the Commission engaged 
IAMSLOTH, an interactive social media and digital artist.  He said the West Valley Arts Council 
would handle the logistics and contract for eight opportunities throughout the year. 
 
Motion:  To approve an amount not to exceed $44,000.00 for funding interactive art installations 
for the LiVE! Concert Series.

STAFF REPORTS 
Mr. Sabillon gave an update on the following:  
• Ballet Under the Stars 
o This event was held earlier in September and was a great event.  
o The Commission’s support of the event is greatly appreciated.  
o There were potentially 2,500 attendees and past events had attendance around 
1,500 people, so there was great turnout this year.   
• Live@Murphy Park 
o The event will be held Saturday, September 30th from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the lot 
by the Civic Center.  As September is Hispanic Heritage Month, the theme is Fiesta 
Calliente.

   NEXT MEETING 
The next regular meeting of the Glendale Arts Commission will be October 26, 2023 at 6:00 p.m., 
via Zoom.
