D R A F T MINUTES LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD GLENDALE PUBLIC LIBRARY 5959 W. BROWN ST. GLENDALE, ARIZONA 85302 NOVEMBER 8, 2023 6:00 P.M. 1. CALL TO ORDER 2. ROLL CALL Present: Diane Kocur, Chair Gary Johnson, Board Member Haydee Kukowski, Board Member Theresa Fowler, Board Member Meegan Tosh, Board Member Also Present:Michael Beck, Chief Librarian Dawn Ferro, Library Administrator Sarah Kaufman , Administrative Librarian-Main Library Kristin Fletcher-Spear, Administrative Librarian-Foothills Library Esther Peneff, Administrative Support Specialist 3. CITIZEN COMMENTS None. 4. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES a. Board Member Johnson moved, Board Member Kukowski made the second, to approve the October 11, 2023, Library Advisory Board minutes as written. Motion carried 5 – 0. 5. NEW BUSINESS a. FOOTHILLS LIBRARY UPDATES AND TOUR Ms. Fletcher-Spear conducted a tour of the library, which commenced at 6:05 p.m. The meeting was reconvened at 6:47 p.m. after the tour. b. VIRTUAL REALITY PROGRAMMING OPPORTUNITIES AND DEMONSTRATION Ms. Ferro gave a presentation on the 2023 Virtual Reality Grant, which included information on the following: LSTA Express Grant Specifics What is Virtual Reality? Glendale Public Library Grant Funds XRLibraries Immerse Playbook Handout VR Experience Grant Timeline Ms. Ferro explained the process for open houses and implementation of the virtual reality programming, including information on the subscription service to be utilized for the applications. A demonstration session was held by Sarah Kaufman with a question and answer period regarding the device. 6. CHIEF LIBRARIAN UPDATE a. Mr. Beck shared his update. Highlights included the following: The Halloween Comics Fest was held on Saturday, October 28th at the Velma Teague Library, with over 800 attendees. On November 11th, the annual Veterans Event will be held at the Main Library at the Veterans Memorial with the Mayor. It will start at 8:45 a.m. with the flag ceremony and an Air Force flyover will be done at 9:00 a.m. 7. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS None. 8. NEXT MEETING The next regular meeting of the Library Advisory Board will be held on December 13, 2023, at 6:00 p.m., at the Heroes Regional Park Library located at 6075 N. 83rd Avenue, Glendale, Arizona, 85303. 9. ADJOURNMENT Board Member Johnson moved, Board Member Tosh made the second, to adjourn the meeting at 7:24 p.m. Motion carried 5 – 0.
