1. CALL TO ORDER DRAFT Glendale ARIZONA MINUTES COMMISSION ON DIVERSE CULTURES 5850 W. GLENDALE AVE. GLENDALE, ARIZONA 85301 MAY7, 2024 6:30 P.M. Chairperson Andrade called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL Present: Nellie Andrade, Chair Richard Henrick, Vice Chair Reka Vicsacsan, Commissioner Joseph Smith, Commissioner Also Present: Jane Doe, Staff Liaison 3. CITIZEN COMMENTS Peter Smith, Yucca District resident, commented on future festivals in the City. 4. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES a. APPROVAL OF THE APRIL 1, 2024 COMMISSION ON DIVERSE CULTURES MEETING MINUTES A motion was made by Vice Chair Richard Henrick, seconded by Commissioner Reka Vicsacsan to approve the minutes of the April 1, 2024 meeting. AYE: Chair Nellie Andrade Vice Chair Richard Henrick Commissioner Reka Vicsacsan Commissioner Joseph Smith Passed Attachment B 5. NEW BUSINESS a. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING OKTOBERFEST EVENT RECOMMENDATION TO COUNCIL Ms Doe presented information on the proposed recommendation to hold an Oktoberfest event in the City. Discussion ensued among the Commission and staff. Gunther Schmidt, Sahuaro District resident spoke in support of an annual Oktoberfest event. A motion was made by Commissioner Joseph Smith, seconded by Chair Nellie Andrade to forward a recommendation to City Council regarding the establishment of an annual Oktoberfest event in the City of Glendale. AYE: Chair Nellie Andrade Vice Chair Richard Henrick Commissioner Reka Vicsacsan Commissioner Joseph Smith Passed b. DISCUSSION AND ADOPTION OF THE 2024 GOALS FOR THE COMMISSION ON DIVERSE CULTURES Ms. Doe presented the following proposed goals for 2024: • Community cultural survey • Cultural Food Festival • Selection of Chair and Vice Chair A motion was made by Vice Chair Richard Henrick, seconded by Commissioner Reka Vicsacsan to adopt the Commission on Diverse Cultures goals for 2024. NEXT MEETING The next regular meeting of the Commission on Diverse Cultures will be held on June 8, 2024 at 6:30 p.m., in Conference Room 83, 5850 W. Glendale Ave., Glendale, Arizona, 85301. 9.
