NEW BUSINESS

Action: DOWNTOWN CAMPUS REINVESTMENT PROJECT
Sue Billings and Eddie Garcia provided a presentation about a public art project for the
Downtown Campus Reinvestment. The presentation included a slideshow of the
projected facility, as well as location and size of the public art project. Information also
included a projected timeline of inception of the project, to submitting a Call for Artists,
as well as estimated completion date.
MOTION: To authorize expenditures not to exceed $600,000 for the public art project
for the Downtown Campus Reinvestment.

Action: UPCOMING ARTS PROJECTS PLAN
Chris engaged the Arts Commission in a discussion about the FY 2025-26 Arts
Projects Plan. Discussion included remaining monies between now and June 30,
2025, and a breakdown of the Community Activity line-item, including:
$60,000 for the Performing Arts Grants
$75,000 for Arts and Culture Fest 2026
$25,000 for Ballet Under the Stars 2025
$145,000 for Arts Master Plan Guided Activities
MOTION: To approve $305,000 in expenditures for the FY2025-26 Arts Projects Plan.

Action: Selection of Chair and Vice Chair for 2025 Calendar Year
Chris announced that the Commission must make its recommendations to the
Government Services Committee for appointment of the Arts Commission Chair and
Vice Chair for 2025.
Chris announced that current Vice Chair James Smith self-nominated for Chair via a
prior communication from James to Chris.
No other Commissioners nominated or self-nominated for Chair.
Current Chair Nancy Lenox expressed a willingness to continue as Chair, to position to
Vice-Chair, or to allow another Commissioner to serve as Vice-Chair.
MOTION: To recommend the appointment of Commissioner James Smith as Chair of
the Arts Commission for 2025, and Commissioner Nancy Lenox as Vice Chair of the
Arts Commission for 2025.

Information: POTENTIAL JANUARY 7, 2025 ARTS COMMISSION MEETING AT
SAHUARO RANCH PARK
Chris updated the Commission about recent communications with Carolyn Toliver
about moving the January Arts Commission meeting to January 7, and relocating to
the Fruit Packing Shed at Sahuaro Ranch Park. The update was met favorably with
the Commission.

Information: Update on Citizen Comment
Chris gave information on a request to purchase an art piece for possible acquisition
into the Portable Art Collection. Chris updated the Commission on their option to
consider purchasing the work, rejecting the work, or delay consideration up to, but not
limited to February 18, 2025.
After asking several questions about the work, the Commission decided to delay
consideration until the December 17th, 2024 Arts Commission meeting.
6.
STAFF REPORTS
Jessi Pederson reported that November 26 is the date scheduled for the Arts Master
Plan to go before City Council.
Ms. Pederson also reported Glendale Glitters is scheduled to begin on November 29th.

 NEXT MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Glendale Arts Commission will be on Tuesday,
December 17th, 2024 at 6:00 p.m., in the Vault Conference Room at the Glendale Civic
Center Annex, 5752 W. Glenn Drive, Glendale, Arizona, 85301.
