Chair James Smith called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM

CITIZEN COMMENTS
A citizen comment was stated by Sophia Gomez. She thanked the Arts
Commission for their continued efforts, and asked that the Arts Commission
consider a youth representative to be able and allowed to serve on the Arts
Commission, highlighting the importance of youth activities and youth voices in
the Arts and Culture.

NEW BUSINESS

Action: Library Card Design Contest Winners
Chris Taylor provided a brief recap of the Library Card Design Finalists, and the
Commission discussed and made their recommendations amongst the finalists for the
new Library Card Designs.
MOTION:  To approve Samar Batarseh, Rosalie Blair, Dallas Parke, and Ripley Parke
as the winners of the 2025 Library Card Design Project.
Motioned by Vice Chair Nancy Lenox, seconded by Commissioner Lizbeth Feria.

Information: Sensory Garden and Wayfinding Projects
Chris Taylor updated the Commission on the progress of the Elise McCarthy Sensory
Garden, and the GFY Wayfinding project, including the updating of these projects into
Capital Improvement Projects, with support from the Municipal Arts Fund.
Conversations continue with both projects among the new Director and Deputy
Director of Economic Development, as well as CIP project managers in Glendale.
c.
Information: Update on Downtown Mural Campaign
Chris Taylor updated the Commission on the progress of the Downtown Mural
Campaign Project, including 7 interested businesses owners and/or City-owned
properties that could be included in the project. The Commission supported further
research for concept renderings for each of the 7 proposed sites.
d.
Information: Update on Performing Arts Grant Process for FY 26
Chris Taylor updated the Commission on the current progress with the FY 26
Performing Arts Grants, including their current availability for applications, as well as
reminders about the scoring process and selection process, scheduled for June 17,
2025.

COMMISSION COMMENTS

Chair James Smith shared his appreciation to the Commissioners and the Art Staff for
their continued work with Arts and Culture with the City of Glendale.

 NEXT MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Glendale Arts Commission will be on Tuesday, May
20th, 2025 at 6:00 p.m., at the Vault Conference Room at the Civic Center Annex. 5752
