Develop the structure and organization of the commission. Discussed how to present ideas and information to the
Government Services Group for consideration, and effective community outreach and communication to various
cultural groups. 
 
  
 
c.
Process for filling long-term vacancies. The commissioners discussed the process for filling vacancies and the
timeline. 
  
 
d.
Discuss the need for subcommittees. The commissioners discussed the potential for developing committees.
  
 
e.
Review Bylaws - All commissioners reviewed and discussed the bylaws. 
  
 
f.
Create a Mission Statement. The commissioners developed the following mission statement: “Create opportunities in
the community where diverse people can come together, and understand one another through recommendations for
special events that encourage mutual respect and understanding among all people, to discourage prejudice and
discrimination, and to support cultural awareness, and unity of the community in all its diverse forms
.”

Develop a process flowchart to outline the submission of recommendations. Commissioners discussed developing a
method to keep the Government Services Group and Council informed. 
  
 
5.
STAFF REPORTS
 
a.
This report allows the Staff of City Attorney's Office to update the Commission. The Commission is prohibited from
discussing or acting on any of the items presented by the Staff since they are not itemized on the Human Relations
Commission Agenda. No reports were submitted.
 
6.
COMMISSION COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS. Commission members discussed contacting their council
members regarding updates. Commissioners also have the opportunity to attend council meetings and
speak during the citizen comments portion. 
 
7.
NEXT MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Commission on Diverse Cultures will be held on June 11, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., in the
Glendale Adult Center, Rm 104, 5970 W. Brown St.,  Glendale, Arizona, 85302.
 
8.
