D R A F T MINUTES PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMISSION GLENDALE CIVIC CENTER 5750 W. GLENN DR. GLENDALE, ARIZONA 85301 NOVEMBER 10, 2025 5:30 P.M. Parks and Recreation Mission Statement A partnership of employees and community working together to create a better quality of life for Glendale through the provision of excellent parks, recreational programming, special events, tourism, and neighborhood and community facilities. 1. CALL TO ORDER Chair Johnson called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL Chair Johnson conducted a roll call. Present: Helena Johnson, Chair Bud Zomok, Vice Chair Marie Nesfield, Commissioner Lynda Martinez, Commissioner Kathryn Mawby, Commissioner Georgette Berry, Commissioner Jaclyn Nguyen, Teen Commissioner Absent: Gilbert Longoria, Commissioner Also Present: John Kennedy, Director Mike Keane, Assistant Director Heidi Barriga, Deputy Director Manuel Padia, Recreation Administrator Diane Williams, Program Manager Pinky Tantillo, Management Assistant Attendees: Cory Robinett, Ocotillo District Resident 3. CITIZEN COMMENTS Mr. Cory Robinett, a resident of the Ocotillo District, commented on the X-Court building and skate park at Heroes Park. He also commented on the Foothills SK8 Park. 4. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Chair Johnson asked for a motion to approve the minutes. a. Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission Minutes of October 13, 2025. Motioned by Commissioner Lynda Martinez, seconded by Commissioner Marie Nesfield to approve the minutes as written. ANNOUNCEMENT OF NEW STAFF 6. NEW BUSINESS a. INFORMATION: COMMISSION REPORTS The Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission members reported on items related to their Commission Goals. b. INFORMATION: STAFF RECOGNITION Mr. Kennedy provided information regarding the City’s Success Factors Recognition Program and recent achievements in the Parks Maintenance and Recreation Divisions. The Commission discussed the information that was presented. c. ACTION: CHAPPARAL PARK MURAL Mr. Kennedy led a discussion regarding a potential mural in Chapparal Park. The Commission discussed and voted on the information that was presented. Motioned by Commissioner Marie Nesfield, seconded by Teen Commissioner Jaclyn Nguyen to recommend a mural at Chapparal Park. INFORMATION: MISSION PARK UPDATE Mr. Kennedy led a discussion regarding proposed changes at Mission Park. The Commission did not have any comments. e. INFORMATION: CIP PROJECT UPDATE Ms. Barriga provided an update on the Parks and Recreation Department's Capital Improvement Projects currently in progress throughout the City. The Commission discussed the information that was presented. f. INFORMATION: VETERANOS PARK DEDICATION RECAP Mr. Keane provided a recap of the dedication event for Veteranos Park. The Commission did not have any comments. 7. STAFF UPDATES Mr. Padia reviewed the volunteer opportunities that the Commissioners can participate in. a. This report allows the Staff of Parks and Recreation Department to update the Commission. The Commission is prohibited from discussing or acting on any of the items presented by the Staff since they are not itemized on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission Agenda. 8. COMMISSION COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS Commissioner Zomok gave kudos on the Veteranos Park event and commented that the food trucks were phenomenal. He also attended the Kiwanis Steak Fry at Heroes Park and stated the park is beautiful and continues to stay in pristine shape. Chair Johnson thanked the Parks and Recreation staff for bringing the Rec on Wheels van to an HOA event at Oasis Park. It was a great turnout and a big hit with everyone. She also wanted to see Rec on Wheels at its normal after-school function and attended one at Chapparal Park. 9. NEXT MEETING The next regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission will be held on December 8, 2025, at 5:30 p.m., at the Glendale Civic Center, located at 5750 W. Glenn Dr., Glendale, Arizona, 85301. 10.
