RE: Official Notice of Legislative Vacancy in Legislative District 19
Dear Maricopa County Board of Supervisors,

Pursuant to A.R.S § 41-1202(B), I hereby notify you that Diego Espinoza, Representative for
Legislative District 19 and resident of Maricopa County, has resigned from the Arizona House of
Representatives effective September 5, 2022. A copy of Representative Espinoza’s notice of
resignation is enclosed for your reference.

As the Legislative District 19 Democratic Party has fewer than thirty elected precinct committeemen
from precincts within Maricopa County, Arizona law requires that the Maricopa County Board of
Supervisors appoint within seven business days a citizens panel to recommend the names of three
qualified electors to fill the vacancy. These qualified electors must be members of the Democratic
Party and residents of 2020 Legislative District 19 (as the boundaries were designated as of the
November 3, 2020 General Election), and of Maricopa County. The citizens panel has twenty-one
business days to submit the qualified electors’ names to the Board. The Board must appoint one person

from this list to fill the vacancy by means of a majority vote.
