Jefferson, 10th Floor and Supervisors’ Auditorium 205 W Jefferson Phoenix, AZ 85003, with the following members present: Bill Gates, Chairman, District 3; Clint Hickman, Vice Chairman, District 4; Jack Sellers, Supervisor, District 1; Thomas Galvin, Supervisor, District 2; Steve Gallardo, Supervisor, District 5 (remote) Also present: Juanita Garza, Clerk; Kelly Gardiner, Minutes Coordinator; Theresa Dockcarter, Minutes Coordinator; Joy Rich, County Manager; Andrea Cummings, Legal Counsel. BOARD OF SUPERVISORS ACTION Chairman Bill Gates called the meeting to order. Attorney Andrea Cummings stated that the reason for the emergency was due to the receipt of the resignation letter of Allister Adel, Maricopa County Attorney, at 12:01 p.m., March 21, 2022. At the emergency Special Meeting the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors will consider or may take action as follows: 1. Discussion and appropriate action on resignation of the County Attorney, Allister Adel. 2. Discussion and appropriate action on calling election for County Attorney. The Board may vote to recess into an executive session for the purpose of obtaining legal advice from the Board’s attorney regarding personnel matters pursuant to A.R.S. §38-431.03(A)(1) and/or Legal Advice pursuant to A.R.S. §38-431.03(A)(3). Chairman Gates called the meeting to order. He explained that four of the Maricopa County Supervisors were present in the room and Supervisor Gallardo was attending remotely and Recorder Richer was present in the Auditorium. Chairman Gates stated the reason for the Emergency Meeting was because of the resignation letter received several hours ago from County Attorney, Allister Adel. He said with the Elections deadlines approaching, it was important to meet in Emergency session to discuss whether to accept her resignation and to address any Elections implications due to this resignation. Special Meeting Minutes Monday, March 21, 2022 Page 2 of 2 Chairman Gates opened the floor up to a motion. Motion made by Supervisor Hickman to accept the resignation of Allister Adel effective Friday, Monday 25, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. and declare the Office of the Maricopa County Attorney vacant pursuant to A.R.S. 38-291(3). The motion was seconded by Supervisor Galvin. Ayes: Bill Gates, Clint Hickman, Jack Sellers, Thomas Galvin, Steve Gallardo. Motion was made by Supervisor Hickman to call an election for the Office of Maricopa County Attorney. The motion was seconded by Supervisor Galvin. Ayes: Bill Gates, Clint Hickman, Jack Sellers, Thomas Galvin, Steve Gallardo. Chairman Gates said there was no other business before the Board of Supervisors at this time and he adjourned the meeting.
