Gerber, PE, RSP1 – Stanley Consultants 2 Leadership Commitment and Goal Setting • A high-ranking official and/or governing body in the jurisdiction publicly commits to an eventual goal of zero roadway fatalities and serious injuries; and* • The commitment includes either setting a target date to reach zero OR setting one or more targets to achieve a reduction in roadway fatalities and serious injuries by a specific date.* *FHWA SS4A Self-Certification Eligibility Worksheet 3 What a “Vision Zero Goal” statement is • A clear commitment from leadership • A shared direction for City decision-making • A foundation for the Safety Action Plan • A basis for setting a target date or interim reduction targets • Two options are being presented for consideration 4 Vision Zero Statement Development • Vision and Goal Setting Meeting was held on November 13, 2025. • The group aligned on a timeframe and/or target framework for reducing roadway fatalities and serious injuries by a specific date. • Draft Vision Zero goal statement being discussed today. 5 Two options for Council feedback Option 1 — Includes target date (2050) The City of Glendale envisions a future where zero fatalities or serious injuries occur on our roads. Traffic deaths and serious injuries are preventable and unacceptable, and every life is worth protecting. We are taking action to make our streets safer for all road users. Through collaboration, innovation, and a strong commitment to safety, our intention is to eliminate serious injuries and fatalities by 2050.
