ORDINANCE NO. O26-03
AN ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GLENDALE, MARICOPA COUNTY, ARIZONA, AMENDING
CHAPTER 2 (ADMINISTRATION), ARTICLE VIII (BOARDS,
COMMISSIONS, ETC.), DIVISION 5 (COMMISSION ON
DIVERSE CULTURES) OF THE GLENDALE CITY CODE.
WHEREAS, the Glendale City Council established the Commission on Diverse Cultures
(Commission) to encourage mutual respect and understanding among all people, and discourage
prejudice and discrimination in the Glendale community; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Glendale wishes to rename the Commission.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GLENDALE as follows:
SECTION 1. That Chapter 2 (Administration), Article VIII (Boards, Commissions,
Etc.), Division 5 (Commission on Diverse Cultures) of the Glendale City Code, entitled
Commission on Diverse Cultures, is hereby amended as follows:
DIVISION 5. - COMMISSION ON COMMUNITY AND CULTURE DIVERSE
CULTURES
Sec. 2-311. - Commission on community and culture diverse cultures.
(a) Mission. Pursuant to the City Charter of the City of Glendale, Article V, Section 1, there is
hereby established a commission on community and culture human relations commission.
(b) Bylaws. Unless otherwise delineated with this section, the bylaws contained in Chapter 2,
Article VIII shall apply.
(1) The commission may establish such sub-committees as it deems necessary to assist the
commission in fulfilling its powers and duties. The members of the sub-committees shall be
Glendale commission on community and culture Human Relations Commission members and
shall be appointed by the commission. Each sub-committee shall be chaired by a member of the
commission who shall be appointed by the chairperson of the commission. The sub-committee
shall have no authority to act independent of the commission.
(c) Composition. The commission shall consist of seven (7) members, who shall be appointed by
the city council, (one (1) member appointed from each district, and one (1) member at large
appointed by the mayor) to be broadly representative of the members of the community
(d) Powers, duties and responsibilities. The commission will act as an advisory body to the mayor
and city council by making recommendations on ways to encourage mutual respect and
understanding among all people, to discourage prejudice and discrimination, and to support
cultural awareness and unity of the community in all its diverse forms. The commission may also
make recommendations for special events.

SECTION 2. That this ordinance becomes effective thirty (30) days after passage of this
ordinance by the Glendale City Council.
PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED by the Mayor and Council of the City of
Glendale, Maricopa County, Arizona, this 27th day of January, 2026.
