• Vice Mayor Malnar requested a CIOSI
Scope:
-Youth Government Day for 8th-grade students
- Should this be a district or city event?
• Vice Mayor Malnar’s staff had already completed most of the 
research
• Staff spent about 4 hours determining how many staff hours it 
would take to host the event
CIOSI process requires consensus to continue
• Staff is prepared to present today if there is a consensus

Purpose of a Youth Government Day

A Glendale Youth Government Day 
would provide approximately 150 8th 
grade students with a hands-on 
opportunity to learn how local 
government operates and serves the 
community.

Student Engagement

Students would interact with City staff 
and council members, participate in 
activities, and gain real-world insight into 
public service careers and civic 
responsibility.

Meaningful Learning Experience

Through interactive sessions, students 
would explore City departments, 
decision-making processes, and how 
local government policies impact daily 
life.

Community Impact

A Youth Government Day fosters early 
civic engagement, strengthens 
community connections, and inspires 
future leaders in Glendale.

• Total estimated hours: 129 hours*
• Other costs: $5,000
• Proposed date: February 26, 2027.
*Includes planning, coordination, and event-day participation.
