Sunrise Montessori School is applying for a Conditional Use Permit with the City of Glendale for a private school with childcare within an existing church, Dove of the Desert United Methodist Church. The property is located at 7151 West Beardsley Road in the Cholla District. Sunrise Montessori School has been in operation for forty-three years. Our school offers a Montessori education according to the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori. It is an education of the total child, encompassing the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical growth of each child. We have an atmosphere that develops self-motivation, responsibility, and self-control in the child. Each child is offered individual instruction according to his/her ability level. We are proposing to occupy vacant buildings on the campus of Dove of the Desert United Methodist Church. Our school day runs from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM with office hours from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Our maximum capacity is seventy-five students with classes for toddlers (18 months to 3 years old) through the sixth grade. There will be no exterior changes made to the site. Due to the existing driveway and parking lot on the church campus, combined with our small student population and staggering drop-off/pick-up times, we do not anticipate any significant impact to traffic in surrounding areas.
