Salt particles and dust travel in the air and can settle on everything outside- cars, houses and plants. I have a beautiful garden I paid good money for. This is well documented in coastal areas as salt is corrosive. The plan to use the road just south of our community to bring the salt in trucks will increase traffic and speed up the deterioration of the roads. Also, there are plans to add another railroad spur. To whom it may concern, I have attended the Planning & Zoning Commission Meeting virtually last August 8, 2024. I understand that the commissioners had 6-0 vote which passed the recommendation. However, most of us homeowners was not acknowledged during the meeting. Hence, I am writing this appeal to object to the request. My house is 300-ft away from the site. As you know, Salt is conducive to corrosion. Salt can mix up to the air and attracts moisture from the environment to the carbon steel substrate, which speeds up the oxidation (rusting) process. A salt plant this close to our homes will greatly affect not only on our homes but our vehicles as well long term. Additionally, the current railroad alone makes loud noises and gives so much dust on our patio and backyard. The plan to add another railroad spur and trucks will increase rail and truck noise and dust air pollution in our homes that we cannot enjoy our own space anymore. I really hope that you would consider this request from a family that will be directly affected of the zoning plan. The area is already prone to extreme traffic heading South on 107th Ave with the addition of new home communities south of Buckeye Rd. There is also a school located on the southeast corner on the 107th & Buckeye intersection and getting too and from with adding railroad and truck traffic would make it quite difficult and unsafe for the community that already struggles with speeding and traffic from neighboring warehouses. Excessive noise and added pollution and dust in this area is of concern to our air quality that is already suffering due to nearby construction and other standing warehouses.
