BOARD OF SUPERVISORS The Board of Supervisors of Maricopa County, Phoenix, Arizona, convened in Special Session at 2:30 PM on Monday, August 12, 2024, in the Supervisors’ Conference Room 301 W Jefferson, 10th Floor Phoenix, AZ 85003, with the following members present: Jack Sellers, Chairman, District 1; Thomas Galvin, Vice Chairman, District 2 (remote); Bill Gates, Supervisor, District 3; Clint Hickman, Supervisor, District 4; Steve Gallardo, Supervisor, District 5. Also present: Juanita Garza, Clerk; Kelly Gardiner, Minutes Coordinator; Jen Pokorski, County Manager; Brooke Worcester, Legal Counsel. ACTION 1. POSSIBLE ACTION RE: ELECTIONS; BOARD AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES; LITIGATION UPDATE Take possible action as directed in executive session on August 12, 2024, regarding Elections; Board Authority and Responsibilities; Litigation Update. (C-06-25-073-X-00) Motion to approve Settlement in the case Arizona Republican Party v. Sellers, CV2024- 018439, by Supervisor Bill Gates, seconded by Supervisor Clint Hickman Supervisor Gallardo thanked the legal team for representing the Board on this item. He stated that for as long as he has been a Supervisor, Elections have always been conducted according to the Arizona Revised Statutes and the Arizona Constitution and the Board has followed those laws. Supervisor Gallardo said that if there are people who want the elections to be run differently, those people need to focus on changing the laws rather that initiate lawsuits that undermine the Election process. He said the individual who initiated this lawsuit is in the Legislature and could work on changing the existing laws related to elections. Supervisor Gallardo said he does not support this action.
