Mr. Martell, Just exactly what is going on here? You announce the deadline on the day of the deadline! We have been watching the county website for an announcement of the meeting that will decide about the rezoning (Z2020016). As of Monday no meeting for this case was shown on the website. Now we get this information from a third party. We have been gathering signatures and talking with neighbors for opposition support. A rather large majority do not want this rezoning approved. This process seems rigged to me in favor of the contractor and more of a show of how the county does not listen to its residents. Just push it through and move on. No need to adhere to the original plan for the properties. Let’s put something there that will not even benefit the local residents, although there are plenty of nearby places to store vehicles and many places already correctly zoned to build a facility. Let’s increase vehicle traffic and intrusive lighting. Let’s turn the exquisite views of our desert and mountains into concrete and brick walls. It looks to me like the Board of Supervisors meeting on this may be as much of a joke as the previous meeting where attendees will just approve the request and not consider the opposition’s points of view. I don’t understand why comments were permitted at the previous meeting. The meeting's purpose was for members to agree all the squares were filled by the contractor. And since the opposition has no requirements to fill, their positions were not considered. My lesson learned there. If you get the sense that I might be a little angry about this, you would be correct. Very rarely do I get upset about situations outside of my realm, especially with government issues. However, this situation is extremely maddening, especially since the facility planned will provide next to nothing beneficial to the local residents. By far the majority of users will be winter visitors and transients. The county should do more to serve the needs and desires of Maricopa residents. Visitors have plenty of other nearby options. My request is that you put this issue on the following board meeting’s agenda. That would give enough time for preparation for the board, proponents, and opponents. Otherwise this will be perceived as yet another approval done in a rush and not fully evaluated for the effects on our neighborhood. My question here is: do the concerns of those who oppose such proposals actually matter? Or does allowing comments on proposals just permit people to vent, knowing that they will just fade away after the meeting? The original plan for the land in question seems adequate. There is no local need for commercial expansion to the degree requested in this case. We have several people who wish to be heard and their views expressed but because of work or children on the computer for school or, as some of our older residents, have no computer, are unable to. The Covid school situation or not knowing exactly when one can speak because of other items on the agenda ahead of ours is not of our doing. They would like to give their time to one or two individuals who will speak for them. It seems it would be time efficient to have one or two individuals speak rather than have 30+, most saying the same thing. I understand that numbers count but not everyone is available. Regards, Candy Harris Subject: Case# Z2020016 West Valley Storage Dear Mr. Martell, My husband Tim Horne and I live on 208th Ave near the area where there is a rezoning case to build a large commercial storage facility. There are approximately 15 houses in the immediate area. All are custom built homes on large acre or more lots. Our neighbors and I all moved to this area for the beautiful views, dark skies at night and the quiet rural residential neighborhood. The thought of rezoning a residential area right behind these beautiful homes for a storage facility is heartbreaking. We strongly ask you to deny this request and leave this area residential. Several new custom house builds are taking place in the area so it shouldn’t be difficult to develop it as residential. There are several large Commercial parcels along Grand that could be bought for this storage facility. If built, we expect our home prices to plummet, increased noise and light pollution, increased traffic, increased litter and crime, well (water) issues, etc. There is just no reason to build it here when there are parcels nearby that are already zoned commercial. I am writing to you today to ask you to deny this request to rezone residential area for a large commercial storage facility. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Tracey Schmitz-Horne Supervisor Hickman and Mr. Martin, I would like to adamantly oppose the West valley RV Auto & boat storage that is proposed t Montgomery and US (Case Z2020016). This facility is due east of me by a VERY short distance (MAYBE a mile at most). I realize that we sold off land to finance our schools…FOR OUR CHILDREN. I am almost positive that IF when the proposition came on the ballot it was proposed as: “Would you like to sell a bunch of Wittmann land to Surprise so they can build City life out in our country” Many people would have rethought if those new football uniforms were worth it. Or maybe we could just keep sending our high schoolers to Wickenburg if it meant giving up the integrity of our lifestyle here in rural America. I moved to the country quite a few years ago, Because I LOVE the country lifestyle. I feel a wave of peace wash over me when I am home. The peace and QUIET, the space, the animals, and yes even the distant rumbling of the train and the overhead roar of freedom when a military jet flies overhead. In recent years the country life has been threatened out here by “progress”. I am not sure why people that LOVE the city so much they feel like it needs to be force fed to others. We out here LOVE the country and if you like this lifestyle we encourage you to live it. If you do not like it then stay in the city and enjoy your 2 minute coffee shop commute. Do not move out here and then drag your city life out here with you kicking and screaming. I challenge anyone that has been out here in the ast to wait until about 5-6pm and then try to drive from surprise to Wittmann, when you get hung up from the 303 and grand all the way to PAST 60 and deer valley from “city traffic” going home, please think about what THAT kind of traffic would do to the good people of Wittmann if you put them all in RV’s and then told them to drive all the way out to Montgomery. It would not be a relaxing ride home that is for sure.
