It is not the intent of the Program to award grants that would benefit individuals, be used as sponsorships, be used for religious activities, primarily fund the indirect or administrative costs of a program/organization, or be used for the direct benefit of the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community. In 2008, we became our own 501 (c)(3) and established our own Board of Directors. In the description provide a summary of the relevant experience, administrative activity, and program development related to the grant request. We are requesting funding to support our mission to Feed, Clothe and Empower those in the Phoenix East Valley through the following services: Feed Our nightly meal service provides a safe environment where our guests are able to come every evening to enjoy a hot, nutritious meal, experience compassion, receive a smile and some encouraging words. Paz de Cristo is the only place in the entire East Valley that provides a free, healthy meal every night of the year. On average, we serve approximately 6,000 hot meals each month and provide an additional snack bag with a sandwich, fruit and chips or cookies to take with them. Our Food Box program helps alleviate hunger for the unemployed, working poor, senior citizens and others with a balanced high-protein food box that serves a family of four for three days. On average, we provide approximately 1,200 food boxes per month to households in need of food. This food box equates to approximately 43,000 meals per month. Clothe During the coronavirus pandemic, Paz de Cristo has continued to offer our guests with a hot shower and clean clothes including underwear, socks and tee shirt every Wednesday. Our shower program serves approximately 250 individuals each month. Every Thursday, we provide a $30 gift voucher to the local Deseret Industries thrift store where our guests can get essential items and clothing. We also continue to also offer clean clothes, as needed, to our guests during the nightly meal service. Empower Our Empowerment programs provide assistance towards self-sufficiency for many of our guests. Paz de Cristo helps people find jobs, shelter and other benefits through our Jobs Center and partnership with COPA Health on campus. We assist our guests with obtaining Arizona Identification Cards and Birth Certificates. We also have a medical van at our facility every Wednesday or Thursday to offer free health assessments and basic medical services. For those with mental health and behavioral health issues, we have trained Navigators on-site that provide for transitional and permanent housing, drug and alcohol treatment programs, social security benefits and SMI clinics. Lastly, prior to the pandemic, we had a Mesa Municipal Court Judge come once a month to adjudicate offenses often found with the homeless population like loitering, jaywalking and trespassing. It is shown that if we are able to reach our client's shortly after they become jobless, homeless or released from prison we are more likely to help them obtain a job and once again become productive members of society. Paz de Cristo continues to provide most of these services through this worldwide pandemic. We have modified our services to maintain the safety of our staff, volunteers and guests through such changes as Grab n’ Go nightly meals, contactless food box distribution and offering face-coverings to our guests. If so, please detail. We apply for and receive funding once a year from the City of Mesa and the City of Tempe Funding for project/programs may be based on available funding.
