JOINT MEETING OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS AND 
CITIZEN COUNTY ATTORNEY SELECTION REVIEW COMMITTEE
The Board of Supervisors and Citizen County Attorney Selection Review Committee convened in 
Session at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, October 2, 2019, in the Sullivan Conference Room, 301 W. 
Jefferson, 10th Floor, Phoenix, AZ  85003/Supervisors’ Auditorium, 205 W. Jefferson, Phoenix, AZ 
85003, with the following Board Members present: Bill Gates, Chairman, District 3; Clint Hickman, 
Vice Chairman, District 4; Jack Sellers, District 1; Steve Chucri, District 2; Steve Gallardo, District 5 
(entered late); and the following Citizen County Attorney Selection Review Committee Members 
present: Chris Skelly, Chairman; Benjamin Taylor; Paula Banahan; Carmen Heredia De la Torre; 
Boyd Dunn; Dr. Maria Chavira; and Rae Chornenky.  Also present: Debra Schaffer, Deputy Clerk of 
the Board; Maria Ceaglske, Minutes Coordinator; Joy Rich, County Manager; Patrick Irvine, Legal 
Counsel; and Ian Macpherson, Legal Counsel.

EXECUTIVE SESSION
Vote to convene in Executive Session to consider the items on the Special Executive 
Agenda dated October 02, 2019, for Board of Supervisors and Citizen County Attorney 
Selection Review Committee pursuant to the statutory authority listed for each item.
Chairman Gates noted the purpose of the meeting was to address the appointment to fill 
the vacancy in the Office of the Maricopa County Attorney.  He welcomed the members 
of the Citizen County Attorney Selection Review Committee, thanked them for their hard 
work and hours put forth in the effort to recommend candidates.  He said the Board was 
grateful for their efforts and further discussion would ensue in executive session.  He 
opened the floor for the Committee to vote to convene in Executive Session.

Chairman Skelly called for the Citizen County Attorney Selection Review Committee roll.  
The Clerk took the roll and all Committee Members were present.

Motion was made by Rae Chornenky to convene in Executive Session, seconded by 
Benjamin Taylor.
Ayes:  Skelly, Taylor, Banahan, De la Torre, Dunn, Chavira, Chornenky
Motion was made by Supervisor Chucri to convene in Executive Session, seconded by 
Supervisor Hickman
Ayes: Sellers, Chucri, Gates, Hickman, Gallardo

POSSIBLE APPOINTMENT OF MARICOPA COUNTY ATTORNEY
Possible appointment to fill the vacancy in the Office of the Maricopa County Attorney.
No action was taken on this item.
MEETING RECESSED/ADJOURNED
There being no further business to come before the Citizen County Attorney Selection Review 
Committee, Chairman Skelly adjourned.  
Chairman Gates recessed the meeting of the Board of Supervisors to reconvene in Executive 
Session on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at 9:30 a.m.
