PROCLAMATION
NOVEMBER 6-8, 2020 – PHOENIX RACEWAY RECOGNITION DAYS
WHEREAS, Phoenix Raceway, a 1-mile, low-banked tri-oval racetrack located in Avondale, 
Arizona, has hosted premier motorsport events in the Valley of the Sun since 1964; and
WHEREAS, Phoenix Raceway is one of 13 facilities on the NASCAR schedule to annually host 
more than one NASCAR Cup Series event, generating significant economic impact to 
Maricopa County and the State of Arizona; and
WHEREAS, Phoenix Raceway annually hosts hundreds of thousands of fans and spectators 
with millions more tuning in from across the country; and
WHEREAS, Phoenix Raceway completed a $178 million modernization of the racetrack in 
November 2018 with a variety of enhanced amenities for fans, teams, sponsors, and 
stakeholders; and
WHEREAS, economic impact studies show Phoenix Raceway generates hundreds of millions of 
dollars to the economy, broadly supporting the sports, entertainment, restaurant, lodging 
and tourism industries in Maricopa County and throughout the State of Arizona; and
WHEREAS Phoenix Raceway will for the first time in its history host the 2020 NASCAR 
Championship Weekend on November 6-8; and 
WHEREAS Phoenix Raceway will crown four champions in three days; and Phoenix Raceway 
has already announced it will again host the NASCAR Championship Weekend in 2021;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors 
proclaims November 6-8, 2020 as PHOENIX RACEWAY RECOGNITION DAYS.
