The Board of Supervisors recently approved $23 million in CARES Act funding for a small business support grant program. Given the financial hardship faced by many local businesses as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is imperative that this program be implemented quickly. Many businesses are struggling to reopen and need assistance now in order to stay solvent. While the Board of Supervisors will determine program eligibility and scope, the County does not have internal resources to quickly and effectively advertise the program, create an online portal to receive applications, review these applications against the established eligibility criteria, and award grants to eligible applicants. Fields Moseley, Communications Director stated the Chambers of Commerce were being consulted so small businesses in specific categories received assistance in getting the funds when the program opens up on July 9, 2020.
