Maricopa County PROCLAMATION Unity Pledge - September 2, 2020 WHEREAS, Civil rights serve as the foundation of our free society and deserve our most vigilant protection. In just the past few years, we have seen remarkable advancements in the rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Americans. Yet, despite these victories, we still have a long road ahead. Bias and discrimination are not easily defeated, and we must remain diligent in the fight for true equality; and WHEREAS, In an effort to show support to our LGBT citizens, and to showcase Maricopa County as a county welcoming to all people, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors is proud to sign the ONE Community UNITY Pledge, a public declaration of support for equal treatment in employment, housing and public accommodations; and WHEREAS, It’s time for LGBT inclusive non-discrimination policies in the workplace, in housing, and in public accommodations. For our part, Maricopa County celebrates diversity and supports workplace equality. We are committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of diversity, inclusion, fairness, and equality; and WHEREAS, We celebrate our employees regardless of age, color, disability, ethnicity, family or marital status, gender identity or expression, language, national origin, physical and mental ability, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status, and other characteristics that make our employees unique; and WHEREAS, It is time to ensure equality for all Arizona employees, residents, and consumers. It’s the right thing to do. It’s good for business. It’s good for the business of Arizona. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors, sign the UNITY Pledge on behalf of Maricopa County.
