PROCLAMATION
Unity Pledge - September 2, 2020
WHEREAS, Civil rights serve as the foundation of our free society and deserve our most vigilant
protection. In just the past few years, we have seen remarkable advancements in the rights of
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Americans. Yet, despite these victories, we
still have a long road ahead. Bias and discrimination are not easily defeated, and we must
remain diligent in the fight for true equality; and

County as a county welcoming to all people, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors is proud
to sign the ONE Community UNITY Pledge, a public declaration of support for equal treatment
in employment, housing and public accommodations; and
WHEREAS, It’s time for LGBT inclusive non-discrimination policies in the workplace, in
housing, and in public accommodations. For our part, Maricopa County celebrates diversity and
supports workplace equality. We are committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture
of diversity, inclusion, fairness, and equality; and
WHEREAS, We celebrate our employees regardless of age, color, disability, ethnicity, family
or marital status, gender identity or expression, language, national origin, physical and mental
ability, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status, and other characteristics that make our
employees unique; and
