P.O. BOX 4861 • CAVE CREEK, ARIZONA 85327 • 480.488.6131 • INFO@DFLT.ORG • WWW.DFLT.ORG September 13, 2020 Supervisor Chucri C/O Nicole Bendle 301 W Jefferson St. - 10th Floor Phoenix, AZ 85003 Supervisor Chucri, On behalf of Desert Foothills Land Trust, I am writing in support of the IGA between Maricopa County and the Town of Cave Creek for the appraisal of lands adjacent to Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area (SCRCA or Conservation Area). As you know, we work in partnership with both the Town of Cave Creek and the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation in a number of capacities, including partnering on trail work, conservation acquisitions, and other land stewardship and management issues. SCRCA is a true testament to the conservation success that this partnership has forded in the past, and we would like to see the success continue into the future. The IGA and appraisal is the first of many steps to further impactful conservation in this area. The Land Trust, for several years, has been working with a landowner adjacent to the Conservation Area to acquire the property for conservation, unfortunately to no avail. The property remains a high priority for not only the Land Trust, but also an overwhelming number of citizens. However, to ensure that the limited resources for conservation are put to the best use, it is imperative the other adjacent parcels be evaluated through an appraisal process. The Land Trust applauds the past successes of the partnership between the Town and the County and supports the next steps toward conservation through the IGA. We look forward to assisting in any way we can to see good conservation come to fruition through great partnership.
