When developing our plan for the primary election, our top priority was ensuring polling locations have enough space to provide proper physical distancing. We are considering moving to an all Vote Center election model, complimented by 10-14 days of in-person voting and a focus on educating voters on the option to vote by mail at home for just this election or permanently. The options under consideration will provide accessible, secure, reliable and safe voting options. A similar model will also need to be considered for the November General Election. Revised Model Due to COVID-19 Over 500 Election Day Assigned Precincts Original Model 75 – 100 Unassigned Vote Centers (10 – 14 Days of Voting) Revised Model Given the impact of COVID-19, the Election Department is considering a revised election model. Visit BeBallotReady.Vote to make your choice!” “We’ve all realized how much we can get done without leaving home, add another on to the list and vote by mail at home.” VOTE BY MAIL MESSAGING Maricopa County Elections Department | 602-506-1511 | Maricopa.Vote Planning Strategies (5 of 5) CARES Funding Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) • Amount Awarded to Arizona: $7.8 million to Arizona from the federal Election Assistance Commission (EAC) for election related expenditures to respond to COVID-19. • Legislative Action and Authorization: To access the funds, the state legislature will need to approve legislation • Required 20% Match: The Counties and the SOS are working to meet the $1.56 million match requirement without having to use State general fund monies. • Funds are needed to begin vote center facility lease arrangements and to procure personal protective and safety supplies.
