Ms. Deb Schaffer
c/o Maricopa County Board of Supervisors
301 W Jefferson Street, *10
Phoenix, AZ 85003
Dear Ms. Schaffer:
Within the Northeast Quarter of Section Six (6), Township One (1) South, Range Two (2) West,
of the Gila and Salt River Meridian, Maricopa County, Arizona, lies Maricopa County Assessor
Parcel No. 400-09-014. This parcel is a cemetery, approximately two acres in size, known as
Liberty Cemetery. According to available records Liberty Cemetery was conveyed to the State
of Arizona in 1943 by Treasurer's Deed recorded as Document No. 19430013597, official
records of Maricopa County. This particular cemetery holds great historical significance to the
City of Buckeye as many of the founding families of Buckeye were laid to rest here. Based on
the pending floodplain study, produced by Flood Control District of Maricopa County, this parcel
falls within floodplain AO. Per Arizona Revised Statute 42-18303, the City of Buckeye is
requesting that the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors review and accept a request to sell
Assessor Parcel No. 400-09-014 to the City of Buckeye so that the City can properly maintain
and protect, for the public, this historical site from potential flood hazards.
