BUCKEYE, AZ CITY OF BUCKEYE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT February 12, 2020 Ms. Deb Schaffer c/o Maricopa County Board of Supervisors 301 W Jefferson Street, *10 Phoenix, AZ 85003 Dear Ms. Schaffer: Within the Northeast Quarter of Section Six (6), Township One (1) South, Range Two (2) West, of the Gila and Salt River Meridian, Maricopa County, Arizona, lies Maricopa County Assessor Parcel No. 400-09-014. This parcel is a cemetery, approximately two acres in size, known as Liberty Cemetery. According to available records Liberty Cemetery was conveyed to the State of Arizona in 1943 by Treasurer's Deed recorded as Document No. 19430013597, official records of Maricopa County. This particular cemetery holds great historical significance to the City of Buckeye as many of the founding families of Buckeye were laid to rest here. Based on the pending floodplain study, produced by Flood Control District of Maricopa County, this parcel falls within floodplain AO. Per Arizona Revised Statute 42-18303, the City of Buckeye is requesting that the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors review and accept a request to sell Assessor Parcel No. 400-09-014 to the City of Buckeye so that the City can properly maintain and protect, for the public, this historical site from potential flood hazards.
