RE: AWARD LETTER FOR KER FELLOW MOLLY BENTON 
Congratulations! l'm pleased to officially provide this letter of notification of award 
related to your selection as one of the 2020 cohort of Resilience Fellows under the 
Community fellowship of ASU's Knowledge Exchange for Resilience. 
This letter outlines the terms of your participation and the stipulation of the fellowship 
in line with the publicly issued call for participation and the specific proposal you 
submitted to the committee. You were chosen on the basis of your potential 
contributions to knowledge on community resilience and to advance knowledge 
exchange among academics, practitioners, and the public on the basis of three criteria: 
(a) potential to contribute to insights, actions, or solutions related to a specific social, 
economic and/or environmental resilience context; (b) the merit of your idea to 
advance understanding on community resilience broadly; and (c) the possibility for 
innovative creation and/or use of data, including participatory methods to support the 
exchange of knowledge. 
The fellowship period runs from January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020. 
You will receive an invitation to attend our Celebration of Resilience event on 
November 19, 2019 at the Desert Botanical Gardens, where we will celebrate the 
inaugural 2019 cohort, and publicly welcome you in the new cohort. 
FELLOW EXPECTATIONS 
By agreeing to accept this fellowship, you acknowledge that you will consolidate project 
ideas under the guidance and support of KER personnel and where possible, in synergy 
with the other cohort fellows. To do so, fellows will attend weekly team meetings every 
week, at a time to be determined collectively, from January through the end of June 
2020. From August to December, each month, an event or symposium or other activity 
will be identified for group in-person participation. Known absences due to unavoidable 
obligations should be communicated in writing to the Executive Director in a timely 
manner. 
By May 2020 or sooner, you will embark on a period of implementation in collaboration 
with academic and community members to test, refine, or finalize your work towards

resilience solutions, with continued consultation to the KER team, as needed or 
requested. 
Fellows will produce and present three deliverables by the end of the fellowship 
period (December 2020): 1) an analysis of the community resilience question with 
underlying data contributed to the KER data repository; 2) a co-authored manuscript 
draft intended for submission to an academic journal or dissemination as a white paper 
in the practitioner community or similar product; and 3) information submitted to the 
KER staff for the creation of a one-page high level summary of the data, insights, 
outcomes or contributions of the exchange in a style suitable for distribution to a public, 
lay audience via poster, webpage or other format as specified, Fellows will be expected 
to participate in an intake interview to allow the KER staff to tailor program resources, 
and in year-long evaluation activities with the local evaluator in order to assess 
progress and to help improve the design and execution of the program. By agreeing to 
this award, you also provide permissions for photography and video documentation and 
use for any and all KER-organized events during the period of the fellowship according 
to the specifics in the Model Release Form appended, except as you explicitly opt out in 
writing. 
BENEFITS AND FUNDING SUPPORT PROVIDED 
You will receive customized technical training sessions and professional development 
during the weekly meetings and monthly seminars. You will receive logistical support 
for team interactions and production of the deliverables. You will be given access to 
collaboration space on ASU campus to engage with other fellows in the cohort during 
these sessions, including access to computing and library resources. The Fellowship will 
provide a formal certificate of recognition from the Knowledge Exchange for Resilience 
program. 
Funding support will not exceed $30,000 to your organization Maricopa County 
Department of Health [this is $30 1000 in direct costs, 0% overhead allowed). Your 
fellowship budget will be allocated to your employer institution and managed in 
coordination with your supervisor. A final financial report will be required 30 days after 
the end of the award period from your employer institution. Our financial team will 
contact you separately after receiving your acceptance to begin the process of issuing 
the funds to your entity (including working on any budget revisions and other needed 
contracting documents). Eligible expenses must fall between January 1, 2020 to 
December 31st, 2020, No Cost Extensions will be considered on a case-by-case basis 
(and no guarantee that they will be granted), at the preference of the program and it is 
strongly encouraged that all funds be expended by December 31, 2020.
