Sweeney Direct Line: 602-440-4824 Direct Fax: 602-257-6924 Email: ssweeney@rcalaw.com 4842758.1 8/25/21 August 25, 2021 VIA US MAIL AND E-MAIL TO: LORI.MEDARIS@MARICOPA.GOV Ms. Lori Medaris Management Analyst Maricopa County Board of Supervisors 301 West Jefferson, 10th Floor Phoenix, Arizona 85003 Re: Buckeye Water Conservation and Drainage District – Cancellation of Election Dear Ms. Medaris: As you are aware, if an election that is to be held pursuant to Arizona Revised Statutes Title 15, Title 48 or § 16-822, and the total number of persons who file a nomination petition for a candidate and the number of persons who file a nomination paper for a write-in candidate as prescribed by chapter 3, articles 2 and 3 of this title is less than or equal to the number of positions to be filled at the election for which the nomination petition or nomination paper is filed, the County Board of Supervisors may cancel the election. The final day for candidate nomination papers for Buckeye Water Conservation and Drainage District (the “District”) directors’ election was today, August 25, 2021. As there are two director positions up for election this year and only one candidate petition was filed for each position, the District hereby requests that the Board of Supervisors cancel the November 9, 2021, directors’ election. The District’s Division III Director position is up for election this year, and the candidate who filed a nomination paper for that seat is W.T. Gladden. The District’s Director at Large position also is up for election and Trevor Beals filed a nomination paper for that seat. Copies of their nomination papers are enclosed. Please place this matter on the agenda for the next formal Board of Supervisors’ meeting, which we understand will be on September 15, 2021. Please call me if you have any questions.
