UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION OFFICE OF ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION July 16, 2021 Dr. Lori Renfro Assistant Superintendent for Human Capital Management Systems Maricopa County Education Service Agency 4041 N Central Avenue Suite #1200 Phoenix, AZ, 85012 Dear Dr. Renfro: The U.S. Department of Education (ED) has reviewed Maricopa FY 2016 Teacher Incentive Fund grant PR Award # U374A160041 request for a no-cost extension. After thoroughly examining the rationale for the no-cost extension, as well as the proposed budget and timeline to complete the project’s activities we, we are approving your no-cost extension request. The grant identified by the PR/Award number above will have a new end date of September 30, 2022. As of the date of this letter, your grant has a remaining G5 balance of $13,054,011.63. Per our most recent communication, you anticipate having a remaining balance of $5,578,979.00 at the start of the no-cost extension period. Between now and the end of the current project year (September 30, 2021) we will continue monitoring your G5 drawdowns to ensure you are continuing to spend down your remaining balance at the rate you prescribed. Please keep in mind that the decision to approve your no-cost extension request is contingent on your ability to adhere to the plan you provided for using TIF grant funds through the remainder of the project year. Significant deviations from the planned expenditures may prompt the TIF program office to reevaluate approval of your grant’s no- cost extension. Please be aware that no additional funds are available for the grant during the no-cost extension period. During the no-cost extension period you may continue to use TIF funds to cover indirect costs incurred as a result of implementing project activities, as long the indirect cost rate is applied in accordance with the terms and procedures in your current Indirect Cost Rate Agreement. You will receive a new GAN for the no-cost extension period by email in the next few days. The fiscal responsibility and appropriate use of funds is a priority for the Department. Grantees will be held accountable for how they use and monitor their TIF grant funds. In addition, the Department will actively engage in compliance monitoring of the grantee during the no-cost extension period. Thank you for your hard work implementing your FY 2017 TIF grant over the last 5 years. We look forward to continuing to support your success through your no-cost extension. If you have any questions about the no-cost extension or next steps, please feel free to contact your Program Officer directly, Dr. Chaz T. Gipson at chaz.gipson@ed.gov. Sincerely, Orman G.
