Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day 
 
May 10–16, 2026 
 
WHEREAS, peace officers across the United States play an essential role in safeguarding life 
and property, upholding the law, and protecting the rights of all residents; and 
 
WHEREAS, peace officers place themselves in harm’s way each day to ensure the safety and 
security of our communities through dedicated public service; and 
 
WHEREAS, the City of Tolleson recognizes the extraordinary commitment, courage, 
professionalism, and sacrifice demonstrated by law enforcement personnel who serve with 
honor and integrity; and 
 
WHEREAS, during Police Week, communities throughout the nation honor the service and 
contributions of peace officers and recognize the important role they play in maintaining public 
safety; and 
 
WHEREAS, Peace Officers Memorial Day, observed annually on May 15, was established by 
Congress and President John F. Kennedy in 1962 to pay tribute to peace officers who have made 
the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty; and 
 
WHEREAS, it is fitting that we express our gratitude and appreciation to all peace officers, as 
well as to the families and loved ones who support them in their service to the community. 
 
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Juan F. Rodriguez, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of 
the City of Tolleson, Arizona, do hereby proclaim May 10–16, 2026 as Police Week and recognize 
May 15, 2026 as Peace Officers Memorial Day in the City of Tolleson, and urge all residents to 
honor the service, dedication, and sacrifice of peace officers and to remember those who have
