TOLLESON FIRE DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT 2026 MARCH OPERATIONS For March, Engine 161 responded to 178 calls, while Ladder 161 and Ladder Tender 161 responded to a combined total of 188 calls. This reflects a slight increase in call volume for all units compared to the previous two months. Full staffing was maintained throughout the month; therefore, the LA unit was not placed in service. March Call Volume 01 OPERATIONS FTEs Firefighters – 15 / 0 vacant 1 Firefighter Recruit on track to graduate from the academy on April 24, 2026. 1 applicant in pre-hire, on track to start academy in Sept. 2026. Engineers – 6 / 1 vacant Captains – 6 / 0 vacant Battalion Chiefs – 3 / 0 vacant Personnel (as of 03/31/2026) 01 Equipment & Apparatus A new K12 electric saw was placed into service on Engine 161, improving efficiency and reliability during forcible entry operations. A concrete pad was installed for the roof prop, enhancing stability, increasing durability, and improving overall safety during training evolutions, while also allowing for easier post-training cleanup. New airlines for the SCBAs were received and placed into service, ensuring compatibility and reliability with brand-new SCBAs. All Mobile Computer Terminals (MCTs) were replaced in all applicable vehicles, enhancing communication, navigation, and CAD functionality across the fleet. New airlines for the Ladder’s SCBA system were received and placed into service, ensuring compatibility and reliability with new SCBAs. OPERATIONS 01 All crews completed EMS resuscitation training, earning continuing education hours and reinforcing critical patient care skills. Department-wide EMS training was conducted at Avondale Fire Station 172, sponsored by Banner Estrella Medical Center. Personnel began autism recertification training in support of the City of Tolleson Autism Initiative. All shifts completed new MCT/CAD orientation and hardware transition training. Crews participated in a walkthrough of the City of Phoenix Tres Rios Water Reclamation Facility, enhancing familiarity with a key response area and water supply resource. Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC) training was conducted at the station, improving low-visibility search and fireground operations. Battalion Chief Weaver and Firefighter Marcial Egurrola attended the Arizona Wildfire and Incident Management Academy, a week-long training in Prescott focused on wildland fire operations and incident management. Chief Weaver, Firefighter Egurrola, and Captain Hallas participated in the Central Arizona Wildland Response Team (CAWRT) Wildland Drill, the largest regional wildfire training exercise, focusing on fireline operations, weather forecasting, and water supply in preparation for an active wildfire season. Probationary firefighter training and development continues daily, with positive performance evaluations reported. Training & Professional Development OPERATIONS 01 Fire Chief Michael Young, Deputy Chief Jack Garrison, and Battalion Chief Will Burner attended the EOC planning meetings for upcoming EOC drills Chief Young and Chief Burner attended the Red Cross Community Resiliency Tabletop Exercise at City Hall Chief Burner is currently attending the AGTS Supervisory Academy at City Hall Chief Burner attended the Stop Our Stigma orientation, an organization that is focused on reducing the stigma surrounding mental health in the fire and EMS profession. Command Staff & Specialized Training EMS Division Implemented an interim narcotic exchange plan in response to evolving DEA requirements. Conducted planning meetings for upcoming training exercises, including the Drowning Prevention Drill and Safe Baby Haven Drill. Hosted coordination meetings with Banner Estrella Medical Center leadership. Enrolled five personnel in the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) membership. Provided a Tactical EMS (TEMS) white paper and recommendations to Command Staff. Secured two Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) training positions for upcoming regional training. EVENTS 01 Conducted a pinning ceremony for Battalion Chief Will Bruner and Captain Sean Lucas. TUHSD’s Alternative Education College & Career Fair EVENTS 01 Attended ribbon cuttings for LivAway Suites and Harvest Compassion Center / Hope Center for Women. Hosted the monthly Fire Cadet meeting. Deputy Chief Garrison assisted with Employee Resources interview panels. Chief Young attended the Tolleson Women in Leadership event at City Hall.
