Service Dog Month 
 
September 2025 
 
WHEREAS, the City of Tolleson recognizes and celebrates the transformative power of the 
human-canine bond and are committed to fostering an inclusive community for all citizens; and 
 
WHEREAS, in the United States, 64 million adults and children live with disabilities, yet only 
16,000 service dogs from accredited training programs currently support this growing need; and 
 
WHEREAS, Canine Companions, a nonprofit organization, enhances the lives of individuals 
with disabilities by providing expertly trained service dogs and ongoing support to foster strong, 
lasting partnerships; and 
 
WHEREAS, through best-in-class training and follow-up services, these service dogs empower 
people with disabilities to live more independent and fulfilling lives, supported by a deeply 
committed community; and 
 
WHEREAS, National Service Dog Month seeks to educate our community about the 
invaluable contributions of service dogs and raise awareness of the laws that protect their access 
and rights; and 
 
WHEREAS, the City of Tolleson continues its efforts to build a more inclusive community, one 
in which all citizens and their service dogs are respected and embraced. 
 
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Juan F. Rodriguez, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of 
the City of Tolleson, Arizona, do hereby proclaim September 2025 as Service Dog Month, 
encouraging all citizens to recognize and honor the vital role of service dogs in supporting 
individuals with disabilities, and to uphold the rights and dignity of those who lead more 
independent lives thanks to these remarkable companions.
