MEETING DATE: May 13, 2025 TO: Mayor and Council FROM: Wendy Jackson, Deputy City Manager/Employee Resources Director REVIEWED: Reyes Medrano Jr., City Manager PURPOSE: To update the Presiding Magistrate’s contract to maintain parity in compensation and benefits with other City employees, ensuring consistency with current City policies. BACKGROUND: Presiding Magistrate John Lamb is under an employment agreement that fixed his sick leave at 12 days per year and did not include cost-of-living salary adjustments or merit (performance) increases. DISCUSSION: The City routinely provides COLA increases and a standard sick leave accrual to all other employees. An amendment to Judge Lamb’s agreement is now proposed to align his compensation and benefits with these established City practices. BUDGET IMPACT: Any financial impact associated with the amendment will be addressed through the annual budget process as approved by the Mayor and Council. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of Amendment Number One to the Magistrate Agreement with Presiding Judge John Lamb and authorization for the Mayor to execute the amendment on behalf of the City.
