Published with permission by City of Tolleson ***DRAFT*** City Vehicle Use and Privacy - 1 City Vehicle Use and Privacy 404.1 PURPOSE This policy establishes standards for the use of City-owned vehicles by employees in the performance of their job duties. It is intended to ensure the safe and appropriate operation of City vehicles, protect City assets from misuse, theft, or loss, and outline the City's rights to monitor vehicle usage. Employees are advised that City vehicles are subject to monitoring and inspection to promote accountability and compliance with this policy. 404.2 POLICY Certain employees may operate City vehicles in the course of performing their job duties. The City has a significant interest in ensuring that such vehicles are operated safely and for work-related purposes. The City may monitor vehicle usage to safeguard against misuse, theft, or loss. Employees have no expectation of privacy when operating or riding as a passenger in a City- owned vehicle. The City reserves the right to monitor the usage, speed, location, and other data associated with the use of City-owned vehicles. This includes the right to utilize a GPS tracking device to collect usage data. An employee's operation of a City vehicle shall be deemed consent to such monitoring. Any tampering with or attempts to remove or disable GPS or other monitoring equipment is prohibited. Such actions will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination. All City vehicles are subject to search or inspection by the City at any time, with or without advance notice.
