MEMORANDUM
TO:
Mayor and Council
THRU:
Troy Smith, Interim Town Manager
FROM:
Herschel Workman, Public Works Director
DATE:
March 17, 2025
SUBJECT:
Ratification of Emergency Change Order for Municipal Pool
I am writing to request the ratification of an emergency change order for the municipal
pool resurfacing project. During the ongoing resurfacing of the pool, it was discovered
that the sand filters, valves, and pumps in the pool's equipment room have failed and
are leaking. While this is not entirely unexpected due to the equipment's age (over 20
years), it was originally planned for replacement in next year’s budget.
Given the critical nature of this equipment for the operation of the pool, and the urgency
of the situation, we cannot afford to wait until next fiscal year to replace it. The
estimated cost for the renovation of the equipment room and replacement of the
necessary components is $150,961.
Additionally, I have been informed that the sand filters have a significant lead time, with
an estimated wait of 10-12 weeks for delivery and installation. This means that any
delays in ordering the equipment could jeopardize our ability to meet the pool’s
scheduled opening on May 26th, in time for Memorial Day.
Therefore, I respectfully request the Council's approval for the emergency change order
to proceed with the necessary renovations and replacement of the equipment to ensure
that the pool is ready for its opening day.
If you have any questions on this matter or if further information is needed, please do
not hesitate to contact me at 928-668-0555 or hworkman@wickenburgaz.gov. Thank
you.
