Discussion Regarding the Current Projects at the Pool and Pool Opening Sarah Brown, Community Services Manager, reported the following: • Pool resurfacing, paint, and tile is complete. • Slide resurfacing will be done next week. • The pump and filtration system failed and needed emergency replacement. New equipment has been ordered, with an estimated 12- week delivery time. In the meantime, temporary repairs have been made to ensure the pool opens on Memorial Day. The new pump and filter are larger, which should help with chemical balance and reduce costs. Member Core inquired about pool costs and thought a fundraiser to subsidize and/or waive the cost of children’s pool admission costs would be a good idea. Manager Brown indicated the following fees are as follows: daily entry fee for Adults (18 and over) $3.00, Seniors and children $2.00, and babies are free. A seasonal pass for a single is $40.00 and a family of four are $95.00. Manager Brown reported that prices were adjusted about four years ago to be comparable with other cities. She also reported that Project Salt currently sponsors some “Family Nights”, and although staffing wouldn’t be affected, maximum capacity is something to consider. Member Core requested data on the number of people paying admission that are 17 and under. Manager Brown stated that she should be able to provide revenue for the past five years’ attendance numbers for comparison. She didn’t think that it would be possible to implement the waiving of fees for the current pool season and thought the focus should be on planning for next season. Discussion and Updates of Community Programming, Upcoming Programming, and the Summer Season Manager Brown provided the following updates: • Registration for summer programming is opening a month early this year, on April 1st. • The pool schedule will be posted by April 1st. • There will be four sessions of summer camp and swimming lessons this year, instead of the usual three. Camp will start June 2nd and run for eight weeks, until school starts. • Town Academy is a 10-week program where community members learn about town government. It takes place every Tuesday evening for about two hours, with around 25 people currently enrolled. Each week a different department gives a presentation. Next Tuesday, the recreation department will present at the library, with interactive stations including chair aerobics, a cornhole tournament with root beer tasting, and prickly pear salsa making. • On March 26th, there will be a sock hop at the Wellik Senior Center from 3:00 to 6:00, which is a free event with a live band, games, a hot dog vendor, a root beer float station, an old-fashioned candy station, a best dressed contest, and a photographer. • On April 2nd, there will be a free dementia seminar in partnership with Hospice of the Valley, including breakfast sponsored by Rustic Ranch. This event is geared towards caring for those with dementia, and understanding the process and journey for caregivers, family members, and individuals with dementia. • On April 16th, Desserts in the Desert is a Friends of the Library fundraiser event. This year is highlighting local artists (last year were local authors). It is free to attend, and tickets for desserts will be available for purchase. There will be a silent auction/raffle for full desserts from places like Buttermilk and Honey and C & C Bakery. There will also be live poetry readings with currently eight poets signed up. • Arbor Day Celebration is on April 22nd, at Coffinger Park. There are projects to finish, new projects, and new trees to plant. There will be a barbecue afterwards. The story walk will be changed out. Manager Brown is looking for a spring/summer story for the story walk and welcomes any recommendations. This event will be very similar to last year at Coffinger Park, but the town is open to other location ideas in the future. They are considering partnering Make a Difference Day with Arbor Day for a multi- park cleanup in the future. Community Programming Committee Minutes of March 19, 2025 Page 4 of 4 7.
