Proclamation: Hartlie Day

PROCLAMATION
HARTLIE DAY
WHEREAS, Hartlie, a 9-year-old resident of El Mirage, Arizona, was a bright light in her 
community, known for her joyful spirit, creativity, and love for life, family, and adventure; and
WHEREAS, on April 7, 2025, Hartlie was diagnosed with Diffuse Midline Glioma, a rare 
and aggressive brain tumor, after what was initially believed to be a minor injury revealed a far 
more serious medical condition; and
WHEREAS, despite facing a devastating diagnosis and uncertain future, Hartlie 
demonstrated extraordinary bravery, resilience, and grace, continuing to embrace life through bike 
riding, roller skating, swimming, crafting, and sharing laughter and love with those around her; 
and
WHEREAS, the El Mirage community came together in an extraordinary show of 
compassion and unity, organizing the “Cars for Hartlie” event at El Mirage Elementary School, 
where hundreds of vehicles and community members gathered in support; and
WHEREAS, the El Mirage Police Department, local car clubs, volunteers, businesses, and 
residents exemplified the very best of El Mirage by rallying around Hartlie and her family with 
generosity, kindness, and unwavering support; and
WHEREAS, Hartlie’s journey inspired countless individuals across Arizona and beyond, 
reminding all of the importance of cherishing each moment, supporting one another, and living 
life with courage, compassion, and joy; and
WHEREAS, Hartlie passed away on April 22, 2026, leaving behind a lasting legacy of 
courage, love, and community that will not be forgotten.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, the Mayor of the City of El Mirage, Arizona, on behalf of the 
City Council, do hereby proclaim June 6, 2026, as “HARTLIE DAY” in the City of El Mirage 
and encourage all residents to honor her life by spreading kindness, supporting families in need, 
and embracing each day with the same courage, joy, and love that Hartlie shared with the world.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City 
of El Mirage to be affixed this 2nd day of June, 2026.
