CITY OF TEMPE
Meeting Date: 3/5/2026
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
Agenda Item: 7B16
ACTION: Approve one-year contract renewals to Keller Electric Industries and PumpPros International
for the purchase, maintenance and repair of variable frequency drives.
FISCAL IMPACT: The total cost of these contracts is $700,000. Sufficient funds have been
appropriated in the Water and Wastewater Fund, Cost Centers 3013 (Johnny G. Martinez W.T.P.), 3014
(South Tempe W.T.P.), 3016 (Water Field Facilities), 3034 (Kyrene W.R.F.) and 3035 (Wastewater Field
Facilities) and in General Fund, Cost Centers 3257 (Park Preserves Maintenance ), 3258 (South Parks)
and 6308159 (Indian Bend Wash Repair+Renov) for the anticipated expenditure in the current fiscal
year and future fiscal years, contingent upon City Council approval of the City’s annual budget.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the contract renewals.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: (WUD25-006-01, 02) The City Council approved this
supplemental contract award on August 26, 2024 for an initial 18-month period with three, one-year
renewal options to Keller Electric Industries and PumpPros International for the purchase, maintenance,
installation and repair of variable frequency drives (VFD). Public Works maintains various sizes and
types of VFD’s, which control the speed of motors that pump water and chemicals throughout the utility.
These drives are also used at various Parks facilities such as well sites. These contracts supplement
staff capabilities to perform repairs and supply critical parts for these assets and provide a supplemental
source for parts in addition to the contracts awarded under WUD24-037, which allows greater flexibility
of sourcing critical components of these assets when needed. This is the first of three, one-year renewal
options.
The performance of the contractors was rated by City staff as follows:
Keller Electric
PumpPros
