RESOLUTION NO. R2026.28 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPE, ARIZONA, APPROVING THE SUBMISSION OF THE CITY OF TEMPE'S APPLICATION FOR GAMING GRANT FUNDS FROM THE TOHONO O’ODHAM NATION. WHEREAS, Arizona Revised Statutes § 5-601.02 authorizes the State of Arizona and Arizona tribes to enter into gaming contracts and permits the establishment of the Tohono O’odham Nation State Shared Revenue program that provides funds to eligible applicants such as cities, towns and counties for government services that benefit the general public, including public safety, mitigation of gaming impacts, and the promotion of commerce and economic development; and WHEREAS, the Tohono O’odham Nation is offering grants to cities, towns, or counties under their state shared revenue agreement, and WHEREAS, the City of Tempe desires to seek gaming grant funds from the Tohono O’odham Nation with the fund requests would support the program listed below as further set forth in the application: 1. Double Butte Cemetery Preservation. This request invests in the historical preservation of Double Butte Cemetery. A recent comprehensive study and report by Aztec Engineering evaluated site infrastructure as well as historical elements such as grave markers/grave plots and made recommendations for improvements that should be prioritized at Double Butte Cemetery. Grant request in the amount of One Hundred Thousand ($100,000) Dollars. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPE, ARIZONA, as follows: 1. That the City of Tempe approves the submission of the City of Tempe's application for funds from the Tohono O’odham Nation for the purpose of supporting programs as further set forth in its application. 2. That the City Manager or their designee is authorized to forward the above approved application to Tohono O’odham Nation.
