Air Leakage
A. Install air barriers per manufacturer’s instructions.
B. All windows shall be listed and labeled as meeting
AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440 or has infiltration rates per NFRC
400 that do not exceed code limits.
C. IC-rated recessed lighting fixtures penetrating exterior air
envelope shall be sealed at housing/interior finish and be labeled
to indicate <= 2.0 cfm leakage at 75 Pa.
D. Install automatic or gravity dampers at all outdoor air intakes
and exhausts.
E. Provide blower door test of completed building envelope for
air leakage at 50 Pa, <= 5 ach.
Fenestration
F. U-factors of provided fenestration products shall be determined
in accordance with NFRC test procedures or be taken from the
default table in IECC Table 303.1.3.
G. All SHGC values shall be determined in accordance with the
NFRC test procedures or be taken from the default table in IECC
Table 303.1.3.
Insulation
H. Provide slab edge insulation at all interior slabs of
conditioned space where slabs are less than 12 inches below
adjacent grade. All slab insulation shall be inspected prior to slab
placement.
I. Provide basement wall insulation at all Subgrade walls
extending more than 50% below grade and enclosing conditioned
space. Install as recommended by insulation manufacturer.
Insulation shall extend from grade to the top of the basement
floor elevation. Insulation shall be inspected prior to backfilling.
J. All slab, basement wall, and/or crawl space insulation exposed
to the outside shall be protected from damage by an opaque
covering.
K. All insulation installed in the building thermal envelope shall
have a label on the insulation indicating the R-value of the
insulation or the insulation installer shall provide a certificate
verifying the type of insulation, the installed thickness and
installed R-value. For blown in insulation, a certificate must
provide the installed density, coverage and number of bags of
insulation.
L. Wall insulation shall be installed in accordance with the
manufacturer’s installation instructions and all places in the wall
that will accommodate insulation shall be insulated. The
instructions shall be onsite or readily available to the insulation
contractors/installers. If the insulation is integral to a masonry
wall (e.g., applied to concrete masonry unit open areas or integral
to insulated concrete forms), the insulation shall be uniformly
applied throughout the wall.
M. Ceiling insulation shall be installed in accordance with the
manufacturer’s installation instructions. The thickness, in inches, of
blown-in or sprayed insulation must be marked at every 300 sq.
ft. throughout the attic.
N. Ventilated attic spaces with air permeable insulation shall
include a baffle adjacent to soffit and eave vents that extends
over the insulation.
O. Insulate all attic access hatches/doors to the same R value as
the adjacent assembly.
Close Out Requirements
P. A certificate identifying the energy-related features of the
building shall be located on or in the electrical panel, or other
approved location.
COMMERCIAL
Air Leakage
A. All factory built windows and doors shall be labeled as meeting
air leakage requirements.
B. Caulk, seal, gasket, weather strip, or wrap with moisture
vapor-permeable wrapping material, all sources of air leakage in
the building thermal envelope.
C. Recessed luminaires in thermal envelope shall limit infiltration
and be IC rated and labeled. Seal between interior finish and
luminaire housing.
Fenestration
D. U-factors and SHGC values of provided fenestration products
shall be determined in accordance with NFRC test procedures or be
taken from the default table in IECC Table 303.1.3.
E. Provide performance labels or certificates for all fenestration
products.
Insulation
F. Where indicated, provide slab edge insulation at interior slabs
of conditioned space. All slab insulation shall be inspected prior to
slab placement.
G. All slab, basement wall, and/or crawl space insulation exposed
to the outside shall be protected from damage by an opaque
covering. Install insulation per manufacturer's instructions.
H. Install all roof insulation in conformance with manufacturer’s
instructions.
I. All insulation installed in the building thermal envelope shall
have a label on the insulation indicating the R-value of the
insulation or the insulation installer shall provide a certificate
verifying the type of insulation, the installed thickness and installed
R-value. For blown in insulation, a certificate must provide the
installed density, coverage and number of bags of insulation.
J. Wall insulation shall be installed in accordance with the
manufacturer’s installation instructions and all places in the wall
that will accommodate insulation shall be insulated.
K. Skylight curbs shall be insulated to R-5 or to match above-
deck roof insulation, where it occurs.
Post Construction
L. Low-voltage dry-type distribution electric transformers shall
meet minimum efficiency requirements of IECC Table C405.6.
M. Electric motors shall meet minimum efficiency requirements of
IECC Tables C405.7(1) through C405.7(4). Efficiency verified
through certification under an approved certification program or
the equipment efficiency ratings shall be provided by motor
manufacturer (where certification programs do not exist).
N. Total voltage drop across the combination of feeders and
branch circuits shall be less than or equal to 5%.
O. Test all lighting systems prior to Substantial Completion to
ensure proper calibration, adjustment, programming, and operation.
